1. Organizes trauma services and systems necessary for a multidisciplinary approach to the care of the injured; components include, but are not limited to:
a. Trauma Injury Registry
b. Trauma Clinical Practice
c. Trauma Education
d. Trauma Performance Improvement
e. Trauma Injury Prevention
f. Community Outreach
2. Develops and manages the Trauma Injury Registry, supervising the collecting, coding, scoring, and data validation processes; analyzes data on the trauma patient population, identifying trends for strategic planning and performance improvement
3. Interprets, develops and implements policies and procedures for trauma services; coordinates with the medical director, hospital administration and clinicians to assess the need for policies, procedures and protocols relating to the care of trauma patients
4. Develops and fosters collaborative relationships with all hospital departments to facilitate and support quality trauma care
5. Responds to trauma team activations that occur during work hours; functions in whatever role necessary to assist the team in the care of patients
6. Maintains quality control programs and participate in CCH’s overall quality control program
7. Monitors performance of hospital staff involved with the care of trauma patients
8. Monitors clinical outcomes of trauma patients and evaluates for trends and issues related to quality of care delivery; helps outline remedial actions as necessary
9. Coordinates with physicians, nurses, other in-hospital staff and outside providers to evaluate and address specific patient care issues
10. Conducts daily review and rounding of every admitted and transferred trauma patient for appropriateness and level of care; participates in case review and discharge planning
11. Coordinates and oversees the development and implementation of an Injury Prevention Program
12. Develops and implements a trauma education program for all individuals involved in trauma care
13. Develops and implements a Trauma Performance Improvement Program for trauma services
14. Acts as liaison for CCH with the community and regional EMS providers
15. Produces and manages the Trauma Program budget
16. Serves as liaison to Cape Cod Hospital administration and various committees to enhance and foster optimal trauma care management
17. Stabilizes the complex network of multiple disciplines that work in concert to provide high quality care;
18. Creates Process Improvement reports and distributes to various departments and agencies as needed
19. Ensures CCH meets and maintains all standards necessary for verification by the American College of Surgeons as a Level 2 or 3 Trauma Center
20. Ensures the facility maintains designation by the Commonwealth of Massachusetts Department of Public Health as a Level 2 or 3 Trauma Center
21. In coordination with the Trauma Medical Director, helps to prepare cases for the Trauma Peer Review Committee with the objective of improving trauma care by reviewing sentinel events, and identifying issues and appropriate responses
22. Works collaboratively with the Trauma Medical Director, Trauma Registrar, and Emergency Department Educator on trauma related education programs (e.g., injury prevention programs, trauma grand rounds, nursing CEUs, EMS M&M rounds, and disaster drills)
23. Maintains a minimum of 16 hours trauma related CEU’s per year
24. Attends state and regional trauma committee meetings; monitors national and statewide trends in trauma care
25. Performs other work related duties as assigned or requested

Licensed as a Registered Nurse (RN), Nurse Practitioner (NP) or Physician’s Assistant (PA) Required
- Minimum experience of 3-5 years in a critical care area within an accredited institution
- BSN required; or equivalent combination of education and experience
- MSN preferred; or, equivalent combination of education and experience
- Experience commensurate with the trauma center level of verification of the hospital
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
- Demonstrated leadership and management skills
- Ability to influence and implement change
- Ability to problem solve and make decisions
- Trauma Nursing Core Course (TNCC) certification required
- Computer proficiency required (Microsoft Office applications, database management, report building)
- Must have thorough knowledge of Trauma and Injury Severity Score (TRISS)
- Strong organizational skills
- Strong public speaking ability/educational experience
- BLS required
- ACLS required
- CPI required
- Completion of training by American Trauma Society in Trauma Program Management and Injury Prevention a plus
