Gundersen Health System is seeking a part-time Trauma Injury Prevention Coordinatorfor our Trauma Services department . This is your opportunity to work closely with our community partners while doing the work you love in the beautiful coulee region of La Crosse, Wisconsin.

What you will do:

  • Fulfill 40 hours every two weeks; 0.5 FTE
  • Work 8-hour day shifts, typically 0800-1630 with occasional weeknight and weekend obligations to help support programs that are offered
  • Partner with a variety of agencies to provide support and education to our community, including fire departments, sheriff’s offices, schools, county health departments, the Parenting Place, ADRC, YMCA, DNR, and more
  • Lead various Injury Prevention Programs that focus around child passenger safety initiatives, summer safety, teen driver safety, home safety, fall prevention, and pedestrian safety, including “Stepping On” Fall Prevention , Teen Car Control Clinic , Safe Kids
  • Represent Gundersen through local media opportunities
  • Collaborate closely with this team of one other Trauma Injury Prevention Coordinator, two Clinical Performance Improvement RNs
  • Office space is located on the 3rd floor of our Main Clinic, within General Surgery Clinic

What you need:

  • Minimum of Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing, Community Health, or Public Health
  • Candidates must have a minimum of 3-4 years of health care experience
  • Prior experience in trauma, safety, and Injury Prevention is a plus

Job Description:

Coordinates and manages the Trauma Injury Prevention program at Gundersen Health System. Collaborates with community coalition for Safe Kids. Management may include but not limited to budget, design, implementation, and evaluation of outcome based programs.

Major Responsibilities:

1. Creates and coordinates the planning, design, and implementation of outcome based Injury Prevention programs within the hospital and community setting utilizing Injury Prevention information, reports, and/or research.

2. Collaborates with established hospital and community programs to enhance their impact on Injury Prevention and education within the region while cultivating positive working relationships with other prevention programs.

3. Collaborates to build a broad-based, structured community coalition, La Crosse Coulee Region Safe Kids, to reduce accidental childhood injuries through a multi-faceted strategy of public awareness, education, public corporations.

4. Assist with identification, recruitment, and collaboration with community organizations, businesses, and corporations.

5. Collaborate, assist, and facilitate the development of goals, objectives, and proposals through ongoing communication among Injury Prevention coalition, Gundersen Health System departments, and the Division of Trauma.

6. Conducts/provides patient intervention/education pertaining to Injury Prevention to reduce injury admission rates.

7. Represent the Division of Trauma on appropriate internal and external committees.

8. Represent Gundersen Health System, Injury Prevention, and child advocacy issues as appropriate in local, state, and national agencies and organizations.

9. Initiate and collaborate in preparing abstracts, posters, papers, and articles for professional publications, seminars, conferences, and other professional opportunities.

10. Assist with budget and accurate/efficient use of resources including materials, supplies, funding, and equipment.

11. Perform other job-related responsibilities as requested.

Education and Learning:

REQUIRED

Bachelor's degree in Nursing or Community Health or Public Health

DESIRED

Master's degree in a health-related field Nursing from an accredited college of nursing, as recognized by the Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing or Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education, such as Clinical Nurse Leader or related healthcare field. or Public Health

Work Experience:

REQUIRED

3-4 years health care experience with emphasis in trauma, safety, Injury Prevention.

DESIRED

1 year Previous experience in Injury Prevention program development.

License and Certifications:

REQUIRED Commensurate with education and experience.

Pediatric (1 - 12 years)

Adolescent (13 - 17 years)

Adult (18 - 64 years)

Geriatric (65 years & older)

OSHA Category:

Category III - No employees in this job title have a reasonably anticipated risk of occupational exposure to blood and/or other potentially infectious materials.

Environmental Conditions:

Not substantially exposed to adverse environmental conditions (as in typical office or administrative work).

Physical Requirements/Demands Of The Position:

Sitting Continually (67-100% or 8 hours)
