Transporte - Part-Time Driver/Dispatcher

The Dispatcher answers the phone and dispatches drivers according to schedule and directs all drivers while they are performing duties. The Dispatcher answers the phone courteously, practices principals of good customer service, and works the front desk.

Dispatcher:

• Responds to telephone inquiries from citizens, vendors and others and takes appropriate actions
• Receives requests for demand response transport, and accepts those which fit service guidelines, documenting on appropriate form. Explains rules to customers when rides do not fit guidelines and can’t be scheduled.
• Schedules customer pickups keeping appropriate documentation
• Dispatches Drivers to pick up passengers using two-way radio
• Collects funds from drivers and balances funds collected against written record. Keeps records of all transactions in appropriate files. Prepares deposit summary information.
• Directs activities of drivers on shift including: assigning pickups, assisting drivers in finding addresses, interpreting Federal and State transit laws and TransPorte policies for drivers and passengers.
• With help from other Dispatchers, coordinates driver schedule and communicates with drivers to fill shifts and replace call-offs.
• Serves as a Shift Leader to Drivers on shift; including assigning and directing routes.
• Other duties assigned.

Driver:

Duties include, but are not limited to the following:

• Assists passengers in entering and leaving the vehicle, as necessary, load and secure wheelchairs.
• Drives passengers from origin to destination within the service area in multi-passenger modified transit van or minivan. Responsible for safe driving, as well as reporting any safety concerns regarding the vehicle or destinations.
• Collects fares for transportation and makes change as necessary.
• Properly fills out the “driver’s manifest” and, at the completion of each shift, accounts for number of clients transported and balances cash receipts, including punch pass record of sale and money.
• Properly fills out Driver’s Pre and Post trip inspection forms. Properly fills out and completes vehicle mileage manifest.
• Stays in contact with dispatcher by radio and notifies of potential problems/emergencies.
• Must be available to be scheduled for variable shifts.
• Ability to maintain a good driving record according to City of La Porte standards as described in the employee handbook and perform other duties as assigned.

This advertisement may be used to fill more than one position and one of those positions may be a Monday through Friday non-variable afternoon shift.

Qualifications:

• High school diploma or high school equivalency (HSE) preferred; or one month related experience or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Valid Driver’s License with a Public Passenger Chauffeur License or For-Hire Endorsement required.
