Nature of Work
The Transportation DMV Agent 1, under general supervision, performs full-performance level public contact work involving the processing, recording, and issuance of drivers' license, vehicle registration, vehicle titles, and related documents in a Division of Motor Vehicles (DMV) regional office. Work involves knowledge, interpretation, and the application of motor vehicle laws, policies, and procedures. Other duties as required.
Pay Grade: 10
Typical Duties and Responsibilities
• Answers inquiries from customers in person in a DMV regional office regarding motor vehicle
laws, policies, and procedures.
• Assist customers in the processing of driver licenses, identification cards, motor vehicle license and registrations and title work. Explains forms and fees associated with the processing.
• Reviews documentation to ensure information is complete and accurate.
• Will be trained and required to administer various types of knowledge/skills tests for driver's license issuance.
• Enters data into the computer to access previous data and update new file information as appropriate.
• Assesses fees and processes cashier transactions balances cash drawer at the end of business day.
• Mails forms per customer requests and/or inquiries, composing correspondence to explain documents.
• Responsible for issuing and maintaining assigned inventory items.

• Knowledge of federal guidelines, motor vehicle law, rules, and regulations
• Ability to interpret rules and regulations
• Excellent communication and presentation skills
• Knowledge of basic computer skills
• Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with other employees and the public
• Ability to comprehend and effectively carry out oral and/or written directions
• Ability to learn and process multiple types of transactions in the DMV system.
• Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and process a high volume of customers when necessary
Required Education and Experience
REQUIRED TRAINING/EDUCATION: Graduation from standard high school or the equivalent. No Substitution.
REQUIRED EXPERIENCE: One year of full time or equivalent part time paid experience in bookkeeping, cashiering, or related public contact work.
SUBSTITUTION: College credit from an accredited college or university, business school, or vocational training may be substituted through an established formula for the required experience.
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS: A valid driver's license is required and must be maintained. Work schedules are assigned and rotated on a regular basis. Overtime Hours may be required.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: All applicants must consent to fingerprinting and a criminal background investigation.
