Description

Purpose:

Coordinates the transportation resources in the most efficient and cost-effective manner while maintaining safety, compliance, and a professional image. Communicate and prioritize all transportation requests both internal and external for all departments within the dealership.

 

Responsibilities

  • Take on the responsibility for efficient and cost-effective scheduling of deliveries and routing of trucks
  • Take all requests and other information related to pick up and delivery of equipment from all departments and coordinate in the most efficient manner to expedite completion and reduce costs
  • Communicate when requests are received, expected timeframe of completion and also when complete
  • Establish and maintain proper routing of inter store transfer trucks
  • Effectively manages all aspects of each assigned transportation request from receiving the request, creating the work order/trip sheet, completion of the job and billing
  • Set-up and maintain all driver files for DOT compliance
  • Ensure compliance with Department of Transportation (DOT) and safety regulations
  • Coordinate with Landmark Safety Coordinator to ensure Insurance, DOT and safety compliance
  • Complete incident/accident reports as required
  • Conduct truck, trailer and driver random inspections as needed
  • Resolve transportation issues with urgency and professionalism
  • Coordinate with all departments on returns to John Deere or other factories – pallets, shipping stands, etc.
  • Organize and maintain all paperwork, data files and reports
  • Coordinate all factory will call loads from company suppliers – John Deere, J&M, Brent, Balzer, Landoll, etc.
  • Coordinate and communicate with outside transportation resources to insure timely completion of requested jobs
  • Responsible for obtaining all applicable permits as necessary
  • Responsible for training new drivers on proper procedures and compliance issues
  • Implement schedule and policy changes
  • Develop a preventive maintenance program in efforts to keep trucks on the road timely and reduce overall costs
  • Prioritize time sensitive situations to satisfy customer needs
  • Schedule repairs and maintenance of trucks and trailers in the fleet
  • Maintain a well maintained fleet of equipment that delivers a professional image
  • Maintain technical and computer skills and capability to effectively use logistics/distribution and office software
  • Make recommendations on equipment purchases – trucks, trailers, docks, loading/unloading equipment
  • Responsible for finding loads outside of Landmark that will increase the overall revenue and profitability of the transportation department
  • Insure complete and accurate billing of all jobs
  • Communicate detailed and complete transportation requests to drivers in a timely manner
  • Manage the bulk oil delivery and distribution from incoming oil shipments to on farm delivery
  • Develop annual budget of expenses and improvement needs
  • Attend company meetings as requested
  • Attend applicable safety and DOT training as needed
  • Schedule and coordinate meetings with truck drivers
  • Responsible for evaluating all current drivers and hiring new drivers as needed
  • Follow company policies and procedures
  • Other duties as assigned
Qualifications

Experience, Education, Skills and Knowledge:

  • 3 to 5 years of transportation, logistics or customer service experience
  • Ability to lead and work with others
  • Self-starter that can manage projects without supervision
  • Ability to operate with a solutions approach and identify existing/emerging needs
  • Exceptional communication skills both via email and verbally
  • Solid organizational, interpersonal and analytical skills
  • Ability to work flexible/extended hours during busy times
  • Ability to travel to other stores, customers or training as needed
  • Ability to speak and write effectively one-on-one and in groups
  • Ability to present to groups and train others
  • Ability to use standard desktop applications such as Microsoft Office and Internet functions
  • Ability to learn and utilize business system software for managing jobs and billing
  • Pre-employment drug screening required

Some lifting (up to 80 lbs.). Prolonged periods of standing and/or sitting. Regular use of the telephone and e-mail for communication is essential.
