POSITION: 2 hours per day (mid-day), Monday - Thursday
JOB DESCRIPTION
Title: AIDE (GENERALIST)
Reports to: Assigned administrator/supervisor
Job Objective: Provides student services consistent with the district mission and legal requirements.
NOTE: Work assignments/schedules may fluctuate to address variable staffing needs.
Minimum Qualifications
• Valid state department of education license/permit as determined at the time of appointment.
• Meets mandated state/federal criteria (i.e., approved degree, completion of requisite higher education credit hours/courses, or acceptable score on an authorized professional standards test).
• Displays flexibility, reliability, self-discipline and a willingness to take on challenging tasks.
• Embodies high ethical standards/integrity. Accepts responsibility for personal decisions/conduct.
• Documents/maintains a record free of criminal violations that prohibit public school employment.
• Nonviolent Crisis Intervention (CPI) or similar training may be required for some assignments.
Physical Demands: Duties may require providing physical assistance to students.
Note: Specialized training may be required (e.g., blood borne pathogen, child abuse/neglect, communicable disease, CPR, first aid/injury prevention, nonviolent crisis intervention, etc.) as a condition of employment.
Essential Functions:
1. Arrives on time prepared to work. Complies with established work schedules.
• Receives directions from the assigned supervisor. Performs non-teaching program support services that facilitate the timely attainment of district objectives.
• Learns the proper procedure for operating equipment associated with assigned duties.
• Consults with the assigned supervisor to receive support and address concerns.
• Communicates rules to students (i.e., expectations and consequences).
• Keeps school personnel informed about student behavior concerns.
• Attends to student concerns discreetly when assistance is requested.
• Works with staff to identify student assistance strategies most likely to be effective.
The following are representative of possible job assignments:
Cafeteria: Maintains visibility and monitors students during lunch periods. Takes appropriate action to resolve student concerns in a timely manner.
Classroom (Early Education, Preschool, Special Education, etc.): Provides student assistance with daily living activities, behavior management, discrete trial training, instructional support, social skills training, task redirection, etc., as directed.
Computer Lab: Consults with teachers to ensure students use appropriate software for assigned tasks. Helps staff/students use program resources effectively. Helps resolve equipment problems.
Copy Services: Performs imaging/printing services. Scans documents for errors. Controls costs and reduces waste through careful planning. Checks finished copies for printing flaws.
Hall Monitor: Maintains a safe/orderly school environment. Prohibits loitering. Verifies individuals have permission to be in the building during class periods/public events.
Health Clinic: Collects/maintains student health records (e.g., immunization status, medical histories, etc.). Processes parent consent forms. Monitors security of stored medicine. Assists with health screening. Administers student medications under the supervision of the school nurse.
Library/Media: Helps teachers/students use media center resources effectively. Keeps books, periodicals and other materials properly shelved. Processes loans/returns.
Office: Greets/assists office visitors. Answers/directs phone calls. Types documents. Duplicates/collates materials. Sorts/distributes mail. Prepares photocopies. Organizes/stores supplies. Locates students as requested. Processes homework requests for absent students.
Playground/Recess: Patrols recreation areas. Supports opportunities for social interactions among students. Initiates action to protect students during adverse weather.
Student Care/Assistance or One-on-One: Works with program staff to identify student assistance strategies most likely to be effective. Follows therapeutic techniques as directed. Follows standard hygiene/sanitation procedures to assist students with personal care activities.
Study Hall, Detention, or In-School Restriction: Supervises student arrivals. Assigns seats. Records attendance. Checks to ensure students are working on classroom assignments. Communicates with the classroom teacher about student concerns.
Transportation/Bus Monitor(Aide): Assists with passenger loading/unloading. Keeps the bus driver and school personnel informed about behavior concerns.

3. Maintains open/effective communications. Serves as a reliable information resource.
• Prepares and maintains accurate records. Submits required paperwork on time.
• Provides prompt notification of personal delays or absences.
• Refers policy interpretation questions to an appropriate administrator.
• Seeks clarification when directives are unclear.
• Uses active listening/problem-solving techniques. Respects diversity. Resolves issues tactfully.
4. Pursues opportunities to enhance personal performance.
• Keeps current with professional standards associated with work duties.
• Updates personal skills as needed to use task-appropriate technology effectively.
5. Takes precautions to protect student and staff safety. Helps supervisors manage risks.
• Maintains high standards for appropriate conduct. Takes action to address harassment and/or aggressive behavior. Complies with all legal statutes and administrative directives when dealing with discrimination, inappropriate behavior and suspected child abuse or neglect.
• Manages student behavior using positive behavioral support techniques.
6. Performs other specific job-related duties as directed.
