Provide safe and efficient transportation of patients and materials throughout the hospital.
- Transports patients between departments as assigned, verifies the patient(s) identification by checking the ID band before any transport takes place. Notifies the nurse or unit secretary of the patient's movement before leaving the unit and upon return. Informs the patient of transportation plans and assures their comfortable as possible while in the process of transportation.
- Seeks qualified help in moving non-ambulatory patient. Observes all safety rules and practices good transportation safety including IV line and oxygen cannister troubleshooting to avert dislodgement and / or entanglement.
- Assumes responsibility for the placement of linens, carts, and wheelchairs before transport with proper removal and disposal of used or soiled linens after transport assignments.
- Follows all infection control and isolation procedures as designated by hospital policy and assumes responsibility for cleaning department equipment. Reports malfunctioning and/or unsafe equipment to the supervisor.
- Reports delays in transportation assignments to the floor and/or department.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- High School Diploma or Equivalent
- Excellent observation skills, analytical thinking, problem-solving, able to communicate and interact with all levels of professionals, plus good verbal communication.
- Able to work independently as well as interdependently with many levels of staff
- Ability to adjust priorities quickly, organize multiple tasks simultaneously
- Previous experience working in a hospital setting
