Position Summary
The Department of Surgery at The University of North Carolina ( UNC) is seeking a Division Abdominal Transplant surgeon in the Division of Abdominal Transplant Surgery. The Division of Abdominal Transplant Surgery is among 10 clinical Divisions in the Department of Surgery. The Division currently includes 6 faculty members (4 abdominal Transplant Surgeons, and 2 research scientists). The faculty members offer a broad array of clinical services providing the highest quality care for transplant surgery patients including liver, kidney, and pancreas transplants. The team performs deceased donor transplants, living donor transplants, living donor nephrectomies, minimally invasive hepatobiliary surgery, autologous islet transplantation, general surgery care for transplant patients and dialysis access procedures for patients with end stage renal disease.
The incoming surgeon will be responsible for clinical growth and academic success in a collaborative environment. The faculty member will be expected to perform both clinical and research duties, along with the academic responsibilities of an educational institution.

The position is being recruited as an Open Rank appointment at an 0.5 to 1.0 FTE. Academic appointment and salary will be offered commensurate with the candidate's experience.
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements
Only candidates who have completed an American Society of Transplant Surgeons fellowship should apply. Candidates must be currently active in transplant surgery. Salary and level of appointment will be based upon experience and qualifications.
Preferred Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience
The ideal applicant will have at least 4-5 years post fellowship attending experience. Candidates with experience in pediatric transplants specifically kidney transplants, adult laparoscopic donor nephrectomies, use of innovative technologies in kidney transplantation and ability to participate in cadaveric liver transplantation will be given preference. They should have strong track record of programmatic development, academic productivity, mentorship, and demonstrate excellent clinical skills.
