Job description

Summary/Objective: 
Under general supervision, the position will work with assigned schools to provide quality communication to students transitioning from high school to employment and participating in pre-employment and/or vocational rehabilitation services. The position will provide counseling and vocational services based on students' needs and employment goals; evaluate students' progress in attaining goals and objectives; attend IEP, faculty, and educational meetings.   

 

The individual will provide vocational rehabilitation services to individuals with disabilities to facilitate competitive and integrated employment outcomes. Provides vocational counseling and guidance to determine eligibility for services and to plan, develop, implement, and manage a vocationally focused plan for employment for eligible individuals resulting in successful employment outcomes.  

Essential Functions:

Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.  

  • Provides information to educate schools, teachers, agencies, vendors, and potential customers about rehabilitation services. 

  • Reviews and interprets education, vocation, psychological, and medical information. 

  • Travel within the caseload assignment or assigned school to meet with individuals, providers, partners, and other outreach. 

  • Determines vocational services eligibility, identifies the order of selection, conducts a comprehensive needs assessment, develops an individualized plan for employment, and authorizes services. 

  • Counsels and guides participants throughout the rehabilitation process, including establishing employment goals, facilitating job search efforts, maintaining contact with clients, and moving the case to closure.  

  • Monitors client movement and ensures timely provision of services  

  • Prepare student Individualized Plan for Employment (IPE) in consultation with student, teacher, and team members. 

  • Attends Individual Education Plan (IEP) meetings for assigned school 

  • Provide individualized assessment of employment development for the purpose of student goal planning, as well as rehabilitation team planning.  

  • Develop and maintain referral sources. 

  • Provides instruction and/or guidance to deliver services, such as self-advocacy, job exploration, workplace readiness training, and counseling on post-secondary opportunities. 

  • Manage classroom organization for PRE-ETS. 

  • Other duties as assigned.

Preferred Education and Experience:   

Preference will be given to applicants who, in addition to meeting the required education and experience, possess one or more of the following: 

  1.  

    Master's degree in education, counseling, rehabilitation counseling, or special education from an accredited college or university   

  2.  

    Four years' experience working with individuals with disabilities.   

  3.  

    A current Certified Rehabilitation Counselor credential in good standing.   

  4.  

    A current Special Education teaching certificate 

Work Environment: 

This job operates in a professional office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as laptop computers and smartphones. 

 

Physical Demands: 

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle or feel; and reach with hands and arms. The employee is occasionally required to sit; climb or balance; and stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus. 

 

Working Conditions: 

Incumbents working in this job perform duties in an office setting. This is a 40-hour workweek requirement. The position may involve managing a high-volume workload and demands a high level of accuracy while working with deadlines. Regular attendance is an important part of being successful in this position. Reasonable accommodation can be made available to qualified individuals upon request.  

 

Travel: 

Travel is primarily local during the business day, although some out-of-area and overnight travel may be expected.
