Job description

The Virginia Infant & Toddler Specialist Network (VA ITSN) has an opportunity for a Training and Professional Development Coordinator to join the team. This position will develop, monitor, and coordinate all training material, statewide training events, and LENA Grow services available to infant and toddler early care providers served by the VA ITSN. Monitor and assist in the Training and Professional Development needs of the VA Infant and Toddler Specialists (ITS), Infant and Toddler Behavior Consultants (ITBC), and center-based and family day home providers. The salary for this position is $60,000.

A Bachelor's degree in early childhood education or a related field is required. A Master's degree from an accredited institution in infant and toddler or early childhood education, child development, social work, or related field is preferred.

Successful applicants must have a minimum of 2 years of infant and toddler (IT) experience, with 5 years of experience preferred, or any combination of Training and experience that provides the required skills, knowledge, and abilities. Demonstrated expertise in infant and toddler development and experience with child care or other early care settings.

Qualifications:

  • Must possess a strong knowledge base in child growth and development, including planning and implementing developmentally appropriate early care and education for infants and toddlers.
  • Must possess the capacity to plan training for adults.
  • Must possess excellent planning, organizational, and time management skills, the ability to mentor and coach adult learners, the capacity to build collaborative partnerships with stakeholders, and provide culturally competent services appropriate to the target audience's needs.
  • Must exercise independent judgment and initiative in working with ITSs and ITBCs to assist them in carrying out regional activities.
  • Must be able to establish and maintain effective working relationships and communicate orally in person, by telephone, and in writing with ITSs and ITBCs, stakeholders, infant and toddler caregivers/teachers/directors, and those from diverse populations.
  • Must possess knowledge of center-based child care and family child care licensing requirements and training requirements.
  • Must possess the skills and ability to use equipment necessary to carry out job responsibilities (e.g., computer and training software, cell/telephone, projectors, digital cameras, and video recorders).
  • Must be able to travel throughout the state, including overnight and/or on weekends.

Special Requirements: Must have a valid driver's license and insurance, and dependable transportation. Must complete a TB risk assessment, child protective services, sexual offender, and criminal history background checks.

Physical Requirements: Must be physically able to operate a vehicle and travel independently throughout the Commonwealth of Virginia.
