Job Title: Training Lab Specialist Level III

Job Summary/Objective: 

The Training Lab Specialist will be responsible for the overall operations, maintenance, and safety of a designated RJG injection molding training facility. On occasion, this position may be required to provide field support at client locations and/or facilitate training events primarily in the United States, at RJG facilities, at client facilities, and online.  This position is considered Level III within the Consulting/Training department.

Reports to: Director of Consulting and Training

Classification: Full-time/Salary-Exempt

Main Office Location: Southern Union State Community College, Opelika, AL

Work Location: Designated RJG training facility in Opelika, AL and on occasion, locations in the United States and Online as needed or required.

 Essential Job Functions: 

 Training Lab Readiness

  1. Installation and set-up of molding machines.
  2. Mold set ups and changes.
  3. Schedule and manage Lab events and equipment installation.
  4. Maintain relationships with machine OEM’s (Original Equipment Manufacturers).
  5. Manage material use and consumption.
  6. Basic tool maintenance.

 Training and Training Support

  1. Assist participants in the learning of machine controllers and executing seminar exercises.
  2. Provide hands on training in the lab for team members or participants.
  3. Occasionally assist with conducting seminars throughout the United States and online.
  4. Seminar length may range from 3 business days to 10 business days.
  5. Primarily seminars will be from 8am – 5pm, Monday-Friday. On rare occasions, it is possible that a training event is held during the client’s time zone, on a weekend, or even 3rd shift.

Safety 

  1. Responsible for lab safety as it pertains to RJG® equipment and classes.
  2. Facilitate the implementation of various safety requirements and assist in establishing a safe work environment as guided by corporate safety guidelines.
  3. Advise Trainers, Visitors and Students of safety requirements and ensure that safety guidelines are adhered to.
  4. Utilize appropriate Lock Out Tag Out procedures when performing maintenance, moving, or swapping out machines.
  5. Utilize a continuous improvement mindset related to safety to identify opportunities for improvement and to eliminate hazards.

 Team Communication

  1. Facilitate communications between internal and external stakeholders as needed related to all aspects of the training cycle.
  2. Participate in departmental group conversations.
  3. Attend team meetings.
  4. Attend bi-annual departmental professional development weeks.

 Content Management

  1. Supply feedback on current course content and offer improvements.
  2. Develop potential new course content.
  3. Contribute to written articles.

Administration

  1. Classroom set up.
  2. Submit any associated paperwork for training event.

 Qualifications:

Required:

  1. Qualified candidates will have 3-5 years of experience as a trainer, 5-10 years of Injection Molding industry knowledge, or a combination of both.
  2. Experience as a trainer or possess teaching skills.
  3. Ability to operate a fork truck and/or obtain certification.
  4. RJG Master Molder 1 certificate.
  5. Ability to learn and follow RJG lab safety requirements.
  6. Knowledge of RJG training, equipment, and software, including eDart and CoPilot.
  7. Knowledge or background in tool design and part design. Solid model and flow analysis would be helpful.
  8. Knowledge or background in hydraulics and pneumatics.
  9. Experience working with machine electronics, facility electrical and facility maintenance.
  10. Proficiency in Microsoft Office programs (Word, Outlook, Excel and PowerPoint).
  11. Proficiency with set-up and utilization of online platforms where meetings or seminars can be delivered, such as Newrow, Zoom, or Microsoft Teams.
  12. Excellent verbal communication skills - Must be a good listener.
  13. Excellent written communication skills.
  14. Excellent problem-solving skills; able to identify problem and root cause, then be able to present an appropriate solution.

Preferred:

  1. Master Molder II and Train the Trainer Certificate or willingness to complete.
  2. Environmental Health and Safety training is desirable.

Work Environment:

  1. Primarily training events will be held at RJG training facilities, client facilities, or online.
  2. Lab/Office/Client setting: Exposure to loud noises, chemical smells, or plastic substances is minimal, but possible.

Physical Demands:  Ability to lift 50 pounds. Occasional bending, sitting, walking, and lifting. Extended periods of time standing while delivering a training course, and/or extended periods of time sitting in a vehicle or plane for travel.

Travel Expectations:  Light travel 5-10%. Must have and maintain a valid driver’s license and a driving record that is acceptable with our insurance company. International travel could be required. Applicant must have or have the ability to obtain a passport.
