Description
SUMMARY: The Training and Development Specialist is the principal staff responsible for developing, planning, synchronizing, coordinating, executing, monitoring and tracking the training for the entire staff for the organization. This position actively searches, creatively designs and implements effective methods to educate and enhance performance. This position may, as required, present the training to individuals, large or small groups in person or virtually; train a individual or group of other staff to provide training; or organize and arrange outside presentations for specific training events. This position will require occasional travel throughout Alaska and the Lower 48.

Requirements
ESSENTIAL JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
Duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following:
  • Gather information and training materials from a wide variety of sources, analyzes it for relevance to our programs and then develops it into specific training needs.
  • Develop specific training programs for a variety of positions across the organization, as directed.
  • Reviews existing training programs; suggests enhancements and modifications to improve engagement, learning, and retention and/or to meet the changing needs of the organization
  • Conducts or facilitates required and recommended training sessions, in-person, virtually, and blended
  • Synchronize multiple training topics into a coherent program that addresses initial on-boarding, periodic refresher training, and professional development requirements
  • Obtain and remain current on CPR/First Aid, Weikart Program Quality Improvement, BGCA requirements and other required training, as directed, in order to conduct training
  • Conduct "train-the-trainer" type sessions to facilitate training to a broader range of locations
  • Manage the reporting and tracking requirements for all trained personnel
  • Manage multiple priorities while demonstrating professional communication skills and high-quality training content
  • Maintains knowledge of new methods and techniques for training, and training requirements applicable to the organization
  • Identifies problems and opportunities such as operational changes or developments that training could improve
  • Ensures that training milestones and goals are met while adhering to approved training budget

SKILLS & KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED
The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill or ability required:
  • Bachelor's degree in relevant field preferred
  • Five years of experience designing and implementing employee development programs
  • Certified Professional in Learning and Performance (CPLP) credential preferred
  • SHRM-CP or SHRM-SCP preferred
  • Must possess or obtain within 90 days of hire specific training certifications, as directed (CPR instructor, Weikart, BGCA Tier I etc.)
  • Must possess current Alaska driver's license with reliable, insured vehicle
  • Must possess a clean driving record and have a minimum of three years driving experience
  • Able to work independently in a fast-paced work environment within limited time constraints
  • Knowledge of remote Alaska locations and culture a plus.
  • Must be a team-player and have the ability to work with a diverse workforce
  • Must have excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to communicate effectively with coworkers, youth, supervisors, and other personnel
  • Strong presentation skills
  • Adept with a variety of multimedia training platforms and methods
  • Ability to evaluate and research training options and alternatives
  • Ability to design and implement effective Training and Development
  • Excellent customer service skills
  • Must be consistent, dependable, enthusiastic and flexible
  • Ability to creatively and effectively manage multiple projects as well as take on additional duties as needed
  • Must pass a name-based and fingerprint criminal records background check

Our organization participates in payroll through direct deposit and all employees are required to maintain a valid bank account during the course of their employment.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
While performing the duties of this job, the employee may experience prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer. Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at a time. Reasonable accommodation may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform essential functions.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
The work environment is a busy setting with occasional interruptions occurring, including visits from children, parents & staff. While performing the duties of this job, the employee will work in an office environment prone to interruptions. The noise level in the work environment is sometimes loud.

Salary Description
$60,000 - $65,000 per year DOE/Q
