Description
The purpose of this classification is to perform technical tasks to maintain all Traffic Signals, signal systems, signs and associated traffic equipment, as well as design and install new Traffic Signal systems and equipment.
Examples of Duties
Performs technical tasks to maintain all Traffic Signals, signal systems, signs and associated traffic equipment.
Designs and installs new Traffic Signal systems and equipment.
Delivers and sets-up barricades for work zones, detours and other areas in need of barricades; assists with traffic control as needed.
Assists in the delivery, set-up and removal of crowd barriers for parades; monitors activity during parade event to ensure barriers remain in place.
Maintains files on preventive maintenance logs pertaining to each signal; remains on-call for emergency repairs; provides information and assistance to legal representatives in suits against the City when Traffic Signals are involved.
Cuts tree limbs or bushes that are blocking street signs or Traffic Signals.
Performs related technical tasks; sets-up and maintains electrical sources for events; installs and removes banners and flags; works with contractors on the installation and relocation of Traffic Signals and components; lays out road markings and paint; stripes parking lots; repairs and rebuilds electro mechanical controllers an dial motors; repairs and replaces signals.
May be required to work after normal business hours, weekends, and holidays: called out as needed 24/7 to maintain service.
Typical Qualifications
High school diploma or GED, with vocational or technical training in electrical systems, electronics, or a related field; supplemented by three (3) years of experience in electrical system maintenance and repair and servicing Traffic Signals; or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this job. Must possess a valid driver's license. Will be required to obtain a valid State of Louisiana driver's license at time of appointment and a valid State of Louisiana Class D driver's license within 60 days and maintain throughout employment for this classification. Must obtain and maintain required certifications, which include IMSA Work Zone Safety and IMSA Signal Level I and II. Must obtain IMSA Work Zone Safety and IMSA Signal Level I certifications within six (6) months of hire.
