As a lumber trader trainee, you will go through an extensive 9-month training program, which provides the toolbox needed to succeed on the trading floor. You will learn about tree species, sales techniques, commodity market analysis, business planning, transportation and logistics, and much more. During this period trainees earn a base salary.

After the training period, the sky is the limit. You will build a book of business by prospecting new customers and suppliers. You will develop relationships, establish trust, and hone your individual sales style. As new traders start to gain their footing and consistently exceed their margin goals, they earn an uncapped commission-based income.

The trading floor you will work on has experienced traders of all ages and backgrounds, and we are proud that the average tenure at Buckeye is nine years. Traders often work together to make sales, but also work independently by developing strong relationships and pursuing new opportunities. You would be encouraged to prospect new customers, suppliers, or even up-and-coming wood products. That entrepreneurial spirit is what makes lumber trading so exciting and rewarding.
