Accountability: This individual will safely inspect rails, ties, roadbed and switches in accordance with FRA rules and regulations.
Responsibilities:
- Work in conjunction with the Superintendent, inspect and repair railroad track and complete other projects as needed.
- Operate machinery in order to adequately inspect the track.
- Complete all required documentation.
- Promote a safe work environment.
- Railroad experience
- Perform tasks associated with track work including but not limited to: pulling and driving spikes, replacing ties, surfacing track, changing rail, bars, adjusting switches, lubing switches, and other track apparatus.
Specialized or Technical Knowledge, or Education and Experience:
- Related work experience of at least 2 years involving track inspection, repair, and maintenance.
- Strong understanding of FRA rules and regulations required.
- Able to pass Railroad safety test and training.
- Can safely and efficiently operate power tools.
- Must have good communication skills and good employee relations.
- Should be multi-task oriented and possess good analytical skills.
- Microsoft word and Excel proficiency
Physical Requirements:
- Able to perform physical strenuous work
- Able to frequently bend, stoop, kneel, and crouch
- Able to lift and carry objects weighing up to 50lbs
- Requires occasional use of 30lb claw bar to remove spikes, requiring application of 50lbs of force
- Requires occasional use of 10lb sledge hammer to drive spikes, requiring application of 75lbs of force
- Able to walk, climb, and maintain balance on equipment, stairs, ladders, uneven terrain, rails and ballast in a safe manner
- Able to navigate into confined spaces if necessary
Environmental Conditions: Performs some duties in job-site environments, in and around moving locomotives, railcars, vehicles and equipment. Frequent exposure to weather elements; and appropriate PPE required for job site visits.
Major or Unusual Problems: 24/7 availability required. Maintenance of teamwork within track inspection and maintenance / repair operations and with company and corporate groups. Achieving timely and expedited service to RJC divisions, often in situations beyond the control of the switching or shortline operation.
Job Dimensions: Supervises railroad track inspection and repair / maintenance operations within a company of approximately $25-30MM revenue and 20+ employees.
