The Tow Truck Driver is responsible for safely loading disabled vehicles unto the tow’s flatbed, transporting to the auto salvage yard and unloading for processing while ensuring their Tow Truck is in good working order. When not on tow runs, will be responsible for assisting with parts pulling and other yard duties.
Driving/Tow Truck Duties
- Respond to requests to pick up incapacitated vehicles
- Drive to the site, load/attach vehicle using proper equipment
- Interact with customer or contact as needed
- Obtain proper paperwork and/or signature
- Perform a "pre-trip" inspection on the Tow Truck, flat bed and equipment you will be driving before each trip is started
- Ensure proper equipment is with the vehicle before leaving for the trip
- Responsible for maintaining the Tow Truck and equipment
- Report any issues going on with the Tow Truck and equipment and ensure they are taken care of
- When repairs are needed, notify Yard Manager to resolve the issue
- Complete a "post-trip" inspection of the Tow Truck and equipment when returned from each trip, clean out Tow Truck cab at the end of shift
- Attend all driver safety meetings
- Remain on-call for after hours tows after hours including early mornings, evenings, night, holidays, etc.
- Maintain/keep driver license current with appropriate endorsements if required
- Comply with driver safety and vehicle operations policies and procedures
- Perform other Tow Truck duties as assigned/needed
- Other duties and cross training as assigned
Yard Duties
- Pull parts from vehicles that have arrived in the yard
- Keep yard picked up and clean
- Take care of equipment and tools
Qualifications – Required:
- Valid Driver License and corresponding endorsements when required
- Acceptable driving record for commercial insurability purposes
- Minimum 1 year of experience operating a Tow Truck and connecting/loading vehicles
- Ability to connect vehicles to Tow Truck and use proper attachment and loading techniques
- Ability to be on call for after hours calls and tow pick ups including but not limited to early mornings, evenings, nights, weekends, holidays
- Ability to operate a manual transmission
- Ability to meet physical requirement of job as described below, including the ability to drive to different locations
- Ability to speak and understand English; ability to speak and understand an additional language is a plus
