The City of Sugar Land is seeking a full-time Tourism Administrator in the Department of Economic Development.

If so, please consider applying for the Tourism Administrator position today! As the Tourism Administrator, you will:
  • Manage and coordinate all daily work activities for the assigned programs. Establish priorities and make work assignments.
  • Perform supervisory functions relative to operation activities and personnel of the program.
  • Oversee a budget of approximately $2 million with statutorily limited funding (HOT funds).
  • Manage the City's regional media outreach program which includes: strategic placement and forecasting of regional advertisements, strategic selection and purchasing of promotional materials for a wide range of audiences and media relationship development including meeting with travel, leisure and sports media, sponsorship acquisition and agreement execution.
  • Collaborate with the private sector and other City departments to implement, support, and evaluate all Tourism programming.
  • Develop and maintain strong business relationships internally and externally in the community to ensure the success of a strong and robust Tourism and marketing program.
  • Oversee the development and implementation of marketing strategies to promote tourism; including the understanding of digital marketing and social media tools.
  • Expected to present internally and externally and prepare staff to do the same.
  • Assist in the management of departmental publications, record-keeping systems, databases, studies and/or special reports. Familiarity with tourism management software and booking systems.
  • Oversee the creation of policies, programs, and procedures for operation of tourism marketing operations.
  • Oversee the management of the City's destination services which include the attraction of large-scale commercial producers and the oversight of the City's Special Event Ordinance and corresponding interdepartmental Special Events Policy.

The ideal candidate for the Tourism Administratorposition is expected to lead and inspire the team, foster a collaborative work environment, instill a culture of innovation, and encourage open communication. The position also manages the day-to-day operations of the Tourism and Marketing division responsibilities including creation of a vision for the division, preparation of budgets, and management of the City's Tourism and Visitor programs. This position also works closely with other divisions, departments, and community partners in the strategic planning processes of the City's marketing efforts.


Formal Education:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Tourism and Marketing Communications, Hospitality, Business Administration, Marketing or a related field from an accredited school or university.

Relatable Work Experience:

  • Minimum of seven (7) years of progressively responsible experience in event planning, event marketing/communications, or related discipline
  • Municipal experience is preferred.

Training (License and/or Certification):

Valid Class "C" Texas Drivers License
