PURPOSE:
Ensures the production objective of safety of all employees, quality of the product and
maximum operating efficiency by the utilization of knowledge, training and Production
Department resources and communications.

 

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  •  Coordinates tooling projects.
  •  Maintain a clean work area.
  •  Act as a backup for the Trouble shoot mold problems-make assessments on what needs to
     be repaired, work with technician and manager to correct problems.
  • Assist in mold set up and removal. Set up mold in press. Connect all auxiliary equipment,
    water lines, and hydraulic lines. Pull mold out of press – drain water lines, disconnect
    auxiliary equipment.
  • Mold maintenance – Disassemble and clean mold plates and mold tooling.
  • Minor mold repair – repair stripped threads, change o-rings and seals, minor parting line
    repair, change heater rods, sand/bead blast cavities, change pin/bushings, etc.
  • Crate molds for shipment. Uncrate molds received in.
  • Maintain mold inventory and a mold parts inventory.
  • Maintain a mold maintenance record history.
  • Maintain log on electric walkie / lifts. Complete safety checks once per week.
  • Input and extract information from a computer.
  • Complete paperwork – dealing with mold service, mold transfer, shipping paperwork, production, processing, quality, and scrap.
  • Must be able to follow the ISO and Quality Management Systems.
  • Must have own tools and tool box. 
  • All other duties as assigned.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

A. Good hearing is important to be able to distinguish the different sounds of the motors,
pumps, etc.
B. Must be able to work with cleaning solvents, polishing compounds, rust preventatives,
grease and oil.
C. Understand molding, tooling and machinery terminology to allow for competent
communication.
D. Must be able to slide mold plates of various weights when cleaning, assembling and
disassembling.
E. Must be able to move parts or entire molds from production floor to mold repair area with
the use of a hand truck or cart.
F. Packing of product – lifting boxes from floor level to approximately 5 ft. high. Boxes
weigh up to 35 lbs. Stack packing when necessary.
G. Pushing barrels weighing up to 300# onto tumbler to mix material.
H. Dumping partial barrels into other barrels or gaylords.
I. Bending into gaylords or barrels to bucket out resin, color or regrind.
J. Lifting 50# bags of resin to empty into barrel.
K. Using calipers, depth gauge, micrometer and magna mike to accurately measure
dimensions of finished product and tooling.
L. Must be able to climb ladders to perform color changes.
M. Must have an analytical ability to solve problems and be able to execute a considered and
thought out plan.
N. Visually check parts for defects.
O. Must know and follow all GMP procedures.
P. Must be able to work safely and follow Safety Rules and Procedures.
Q. Must be able to identify and report violations and unsafe conditions to appropriate
personnel.
R. Must be able to wear required personal protective equipment , such as, but not limited to,
hair nets, beard nets, ear plugs, long sleeved shirts, smock, long pants, steel toed shoes, or
any other job specific, protective gear deemed necessary to properly protect the
employee. Examples of job specific required PPEs, would be an apron, while changing a
battery, heat gloves, while handing hot product, cut-resistant gloves while using knifes
and other sharp tools, etc.
S. Must be able to effectively respond in an Emergency Situation such as Fire, and Accident
and direct the activities of others.
T. Must be able to follow all Department Procedures and Directives.


PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:


A. Technical School Degree, knowledgeable in the Plastics field or 3-5 years experience as
Mechanic.
B. Work well with others
C. Have good work habits
D. Self motivated
E. Multi-task orientated
