JOB TITLE: Teacher Assistant - Instructional Paraprofessional
QUALIFICATIONS:
  1. High School Diploma or GED.
  2. Must have one of the following:
    1. 48 College Credit Hours
    2. Associate Degree
    3. Passed OGET Test
    4. Passed PARAPRO Test (for information please call Kasey Brenneis 580-255-0686)(you may apply without and will have the opportunity to pass PARAPRO Test after job offer)
    5. Obtained a National Career Readiness Certificate through successful completion of the ACT WorkKeys assessment
  3. Must pass a National Criminal History Record Check.
  4. Good oral & written command of English. (Spanish where required by assignment)
  5. Must possess positive personal assets:

REPORTS TO: Teacher, Building Administrator
JOB GOAL: Assist in providing a well-organized, efficiently functioning class environment in which students can take full advantage of the instructional program and available resource materials.
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
  1. Work cooperatively with the classroom teacher in the implementation of the instructional program.
  2. Works to help children develop positive feelings about themselves and school.
  3. Serves as a model in developing children's language and behavior.
  4. Assists in preparing for instruction by collecting and arranging resource materials, preparing visual and other teaching aids, etc.
  5. Assists instruction by operating supportive equipment, directing frames and singing, reading and telling stories, supervising testing and make-up work and assisting on field trips.
  6. Assists in supervising such activities as playground, fire drills, lunchroom, field trips, bus loading and individual or small group activities, snack, toilet and clothing routines.
  7. Assists in interpreting the school program to parents and staff.
  8. Participates in parent conferences with the classroom teacher only if it is deemed necessary and upon approval of the Building Administrator.
  9. Participates in the staff meetings at the school during the duty day when possible.
  10. Provides instructional support by maintaining records, preparing reports, scoring objective tests, processing and distributing books and supplies, collecting money and cleaning and storing materials.
  11. Participates together with the classroom teacher in the in-service program.
  12. Assists a substitute teacher in the same manner that the regular teacher would be assisted.
  13. Maintains professional competence through in-service education activities and/or self-selected professional growth activities as required by school administrators.
  14. Maintains the same high level of ethical behavior and confidentiality of information about students as is expected of fully licensed teachers.
  15. Performs other related tasks as directed by the teacher.

LANGUAGE SKILLS:
Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to the public and other employees of the organization.
REASONING ABILITY:
Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.
OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
Ability to cooperate in a team effort with other employees.
