Position Title Tiger Peer Mentor Department Academic Success Center Job Location Crete, NE (68333) Purpose of Job MISSION
The Tiger Mentorship Program's mission is to provide all students in their first year at Doane with the relationships and resources needed to enhance their collegiate experience and allow them to experience academic and personal success. Mentors provide Mentees the tools to increase their access to success by addressing personal, situational, and systemic obstacles.
VISION
The Tiger Mentorship Program will build peer relationships regardless of race, gender, sexual identity or orientation, income level, disability, religion, and/or First Generation status in order to provide holistic guidance and support that equips Mentees to overcome obstacles and thrive in all areas as a member of the Doane Community.
GOALS
- Provide students with successful student mentors of similar race, background, ethnic diversity, gender identity, major, and/or extracurricular involvement.
- Provide identified students with supportive activities, interventions, and cultural experiences that foster a sense of belonging with other students, faculty & staff, and campus life.
- Develop integrated, accessible, and high-visibility services to create a culture of academic growth and personal success.
MENTOR EXPECTATIONS
- Remain in good personal and academic standing with Doane University
- Model appropriate academic and social behavior
- Maintain Mentee confidentiality
MENTOR RESPONSIBILITIES
- Meet with each assigned mentees once per week
- Run Study Desk (as available)
- Attend weekly Team Meetings
- Maintain accurate and confidential observations, notes, records, and complete reports that are submitted to the Program Coordinator
- Help Mentees become familiarized with campus resources, and refer students to appropriate resources as the need arises
- Coordinate social and/or experiential activities for participants
- Coordinate success activities for participants
- Assist Program Coordinator in planning events
- Participate in required training sessions before the school year starts as well as regular continuing education opportunities
- Sophomore standing or above
- 2.5* cumulative GPA or higher
- *Students with GPA <2.5 may still be considered - See the Coordinator for stipulations
- Desire to meet peers where they are and provide the support and resources they need in order to be successful
