Job Title:Thrive Youth Café Coordinator

Location: Prosser, WA

Position Type: Youth Café Manager, Volunteer Coordinator

Schedule: Monday-Thursday 11:30pm-6:30pm or as otherwise needed, agreed upon beforehand

Reports to: Brittany Aguilar; Thrive Executive Director

About Us: Prosser Thrive is a non-profit organization dedicated to the health and wellbeing of youth in the Prosser community, with a focus on youth substance use prevention and mental health promotion. Our goal is to provide a safe and engaging environment for local youth to thrive. Our Youth Cafe offers a welcoming space for young people to socialize, learn, and grow complete with espresso, red bulls, snacks, and more. We are seeking a passionate and dedicated manager to help us recruit, train, and supervise volunteers to support our cafe's operations.

Position Overview: The youth café coordinator will play a vital role in the success of our program. This position is responsible for finding, training, and supervising volunteers who will contribute to creating a positive and nurturing atmosphere for local youth during the critical after-school hours. In addition, the café manager is expected to maintain smooth operations of the café. The café coordinator will work closely with the Program Director. We are willing to train the right candidate.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Café Operations:

  • Identify, train, schedule, and supervise barista volunteers.
  • Ensure product quality.
  • Operate electronic cash register to total customers’ final bill. Receive payment for customer purchase and count back correct change.
  • Maintain cleanliness and ensure safe food handling.
  • Inventory ordering and procurement.

2. Recruitment:

  • Identify and recruit volunteers who are passionate about working with youth.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with local schools, community organizations, churches, and businesses to expand the volunteer pool.

3. Training:

  • Attend and participate in various required trainings in youth substance use prevention and mental health.
  • In partnership with the executive director, create and deliver orientation and training sessions for volunteers, including topics such as drug and alcohol use prevention, youth engagement, safety protocols, and program goals.
  • Provide ongoing support and mentorship to volunteers to help them excel in their roles.

4. Supervision:

  • Schedule and supervise volunteers during cafe operating hours.
  • Ensure that volunteers are following safety guidelines and interacting positively with youth.
  • In partnership with executive director, address and resolve any volunteer-related issues or conflicts that may arise.

5. Program Enhancement:

  • Collaborate with the executive director to develop and implement new activities and initiatives that align with Thrive’s mission.
  • Gather feedback from volunteers and youth to continually improve program offerings.
  • Chair the Youth Café subcommittee and participate in sustainability efforts.

6. Administrative Tasks:

  • Maintain accurate records of volunteer hours, attendance, and feedback.
  • Assist in the coordination of special events or outings related to the cafe's activities.
  • Maintain social media outreach.

Qualifications:

  • High School diploma.
  • Experience working with youth in an educational or community setting.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Ability to recruit, motivate and manage volunteers effectively.
  • Excellent organizational and administrative skills.
  • A commitment to creating a safe and inclusive environment for youth.
  • Valid Driver’s License.
  • Able to pass background check.
  • Able to attain Washington State Food Handler’s Permit.
  • Bi-lingual (Spanish) preferred, but not required.
  • Food service experience preferred, but not required.
