Job Description
The Theology teacher is a 10.5 month, exempt position that reports to the Chair of the Theology Department, and the administrative team of Principal and Vice Principals. There may be additional opportunities to teach during summer school.
- Demonstrate passion and expertise in the teaching of the Catholic faith, specifically Scripture, Morality and Church History.
- Well-versed in multiple areas of the Catholic faith tradition and Holy Cross.
- Proficient in technology use and willing to incorporate it into the classroom to engage learners.
- Willingness to differentiate learning to reach a range of student learning styles.
- Adapt lessons for students of various faith backgrounds.
- Instruct 4-5 full-credit Theology classes each semester, assigned at the discretion of the Theology Department Chair.
- Participate in school-wide and department meetings and professional growth opportunities.
- Engage in the life of the school community through presence at school Masses, assemblies, rallies, class retreats, sporting events, visual and performing arts events, etc.
- Chaperone and supervisory responsibilities during the school day and some evenings and weekends.
- Meet with students and parents, as needed, during x period, before, and after school.
- Write college letters of recommendation for students when appropriate.
- Proficient in creating online classes and instructing students via ZOOM
QUALIFICATIONS:
- A degree in Theology or a related field, Bachelor's minimum, Masters preferred.
- Credential or Religious Studies Certification from the Archdiocese of Los Angeles.
- Ability to develop and implement an effective and engaging curriculum.
- Ability to relate to high school students, and build positive relationships while maintaining healthy boundaries.
- Willingness to collaborate, problem-solve, and share best practices with colleagues.
- High-level of familiarity and competence across cultures and multiple perspectives.
- Familiarity and competence in technology skills, and desire to keep learning.
- Must have excellent classroom management, communication, and organization skills.
