Essential Functions:
Under the supervision of the Living Room Program Manager the MH/SA Therapist conducts Mental Health and Substance Abuse Assessments and provides recommendations for treatment – as well as other supportive Mental Health services – to those diagnosed with MH/SA disorders (Co-Occurring Substance Use and Mental Health Disorder). Additionally, the MH/SA Therapist provides crisis intervention services to guests experiencing Mental Health crises. This position requires working a flexible schedule and availability for coverage during hours of program operation 1:00 pm-9:00 pm.
The Living Room Counselor Responsibilities:
Under the supervision of the Living Room Program Manager the MH/SA Therapist conducts Mental Health and Substance Abuse Assessments and provides recommendations for treatment – as well as other supportive Mental Health services – to those diagnosed with MH/SA disorders (Co-Occurring Substance Use and Mental Health Disorder). Additionally, the MH/SA Therapist provides crisis intervention services to guests experiencing Mental Health crises. This position requires working a flexible schedule and availability for coverage during hours of program operation 1:00 pm-9:00 pm.
The Living Room Counselor Responsibilities:
- Complete a comprehensive, diagnostic Mental Health Assessment (MHA) on all clients.
- Completes assessments of participants substance abuse history.
- Conducts didactic groups and provides individual counseling.
- Provide treatment recommendations for all clients.
- Completes documentation of participants in the clinical records on a daily basis.
- Maintain clinical case files on all assigned clients, which will be subject to regular internal quality assurance audits.
- Complete risk assessments on guests of the Living Room.
- Complete wellness plans for returning guests of the Living Room in conjunction with Peer Support Specialists.
- Conducts crisis intervention sessions for Living Room guests and their families.
- Maintains clinical case files on Living Room guests.
- Reviews all cases on regular basis and assures that any case involving imminent harm or threatened harm is referred appropriately.
- Work as part of a team to further develop program initiatives and to increase referral network.
- Provide referrals for additional services, as needed.
- Engage in regular clinical peer review of cases, particularly those involving the potential risk for self-harm or harm to others.
- Attendance in weekly Group Supervision/Case Review meetings is required.
- Participate in agency sponsored trainings, agency meetings, community outreach events, health fairs, fundraising events, etc., as directed by Program Manager/Program Administrator.
- Conducts SUD assessments and MH evaluations on IDOC/Safer Foundation Referrals.
- Facilitates Co-Occurring Substance Use and Mental Health Disorder (MISA) groups and/or individual sessions.
- Perform all other duties as assigned by the Program Manager.
The Living Room Counselor Qualifications:
- Fluency in both English and Spanish is preferred.
- Must possess above average written and verbal communication skills.
- Must possess the ability to work independently while supporting the larger team.
- Must be highly self-motivated, disciplined, organized, and require minimal oversight.
- Must be comfortable using Microsoft Word, Outlook (email and calendars), and should have some familiarity working with Electronic Health/Medical Records systems.
- Should possess some flexibility to accommodate client and programmatic needs.
- Must possess experience working with individuals experiencing mental health crisis.
- H.A.S. requires all staff to work on site.
Education and Experience Requirements:
- Master’s degree in Social Work, Counseling, Psychology, or another related field from a regionally accredited educational institution which has U.S. Department of Education approval is required.
- Clinical licensure (LCSW, LCPC, LMFT, LPC, LSW),or license eligible, is preferred.
- Obtain IM-CANS certification.
- Should have some familiarity with DMH Rule 132 and SUPR 2060 & its general provisions & requirements pertaining to the delivery & documentation of Community Mental Health & Substance Abuse services.
