The HEAT Group Business Communications Intern is responsible for working alongside the communications team to raise public awareness of our organization, through online and offline channels. In fulfilling this role, the HEAT Group Business Communications Intern will help create communication & media plans and implement communication activities, track and analyze their performance while ensuring that the overall branding and strategic objectives of the organization are met. This position requires strong written, verbal communication and interpersonal skills. A "people person" is preferred.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: The following are examples of the various functions required. The job requirements are not limited to the items on this list.
- Compile and update Media Distribution contacts including relevant local, entertainment and celebrity writers
- Research local/national podcasts pertaining to all THGBC verticals including foodie, fashion, business, sports, lifestyle, entertainment, community, and social justice.
- Identify new storylines for podcasts and collaborate with THGBC Specialist to pitch and secure media placements
- Conduct research on media opportunities
- Identify new digital media outlets and support in creating new relationships to maximize digital PR reach
- Track monthly online, print, broadcast, and celebrity PR analytics on Monday.com
- Provide trend reports on new PR resources to benefit the enhancement of THGBC processes including new software opportunities, platforms, services etc.
- Create weekly recaps on THGBC successes/PR tracking to report on and analyze during weekly Department Meeting.
- Responsible for attending team meetings and pitching story ideas
- Create weekly cross competitive analyses with other NBA teams, venues, and relevant retail collaborations for discussion and review
- Support with administrative tasks including uploading press releases/media advisories, follow up calls to news desks, meeting notes/action items, and compiling pertinent recap decks.
- Assist with the Miami HEAT LinkedIn page by generating engaging content ideas and creating weekly content calendar on Monday.com
- Research and compile relevant publicist contacts and ideate potential celebrity PR placements during the offseason
- Stay up-to-date with social media and PR trends and ideate ways to keep Miami HEAT, Kaseya Center, and our corporate partners top of mind to the general public

- Previous experience writing press releases & advisories
- Previous internship experience at a PR agency or in-house for a brand
- Strong understanding of celebrity & digital PR landscape
- Adept content creation skills & knowledge of editing styles
- Understanding of local South Florida media outlets (online, print, social, and TV)
Must be enrolled in college or university working towards a degree in Communications or related field preferred. Desire to work in a fast-paced environment, with the ability to work non-traditional hours when needed. Self-starter with excellent organizational skills. Exhibits knowledge of company identity, mission, and goals. Proficiency with Apple Software, Adobe Software, In Design, and Microsoft Office Suite. In-depth knowledge of all social platforms and adept at content creation for Instagram, TikTok, Facebook, Twitter and LinkedIn required. Bilingual (Spanish) is a plus.
