Test Technician
Reports to:Director of Test and Certification
Can Manage Direct Personnel:Yes
Can coordinate Indirect Personnel: Yes
Position Summary:
The primary responsibility for this position is to support the development and validating telematic control units, sensors, including mechanical components, electro-mechanical components, and electronics. The technician who fills this position should have strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills using equipment that may include but are not limited to the following test equipment: Digital multimeters, oscilloscopes, spectrum analyzers, power supplies, electronic load boxes, and EMC chambers. This position could also require use of equipment to support structural, thermal, humidity, fluids, and vibration test requirements. Support with test fixture design and fabrication requiring light machining or additive manufacturing methods may also be required.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Work closely with the test engineering team to execute, and document all testing required for development, certification and/or qualification of mechanical, electro-mechanical, and electronic components and systems.
  • Support the purchase, fabrication, and installation of test equipment.
  • Support development and acquisition of test fixtures and equipment without need for guidance or explanation.
  • Execution of testing at both in-house and 3rd party facilities.
  • Support the calibration, preventive maintenance and repair of test instrumentation and equipment.
  • Set up and maintain data acquisition systems in house and, when required, at 3rd party testing facilities.
  • Perform work in compliance with local, state and federal regulatory and safety requirements for procedures and test equipment.

Technical Responsibilities:
  • Ability to troubleshoot and resolve issues identified in testing.
  • Conducts tests using typical test lab tools and equipment.
  • Prepares or contributes to project documents.
  • Follows and redlines test procedures
Managerial Responsibilities:
  • Supports resource planning efforts
Direction Received:
  • Receives general direction on key objectives.
  • Receives guidance as necessary on unconventional or complex problems, direction on modified techniques, and new approaches on assignments with conflicting criteria.
Communication Skills:
  • Interacts with internal suppliers and customers.
  • Possesses effective oral and written communication skills.
Qualifications:
  • Working knowledge about standard environmental test methods, and test equipment, (example: vibration, constant acceleration, etc.)
  • Be comfortable using tools and equipment in a hands on lab environment including mills, saws, grinders, DMMS, oscilloscopes, power supplies, etc.
  • Knowledge and ability to set up and use various test equipment including electronic devices, environmental chambers, and vibration shakers.
  • Familiar with the use and maintenance of standard electronics test methods, and test equipment, (example: vibration, EMI, environmental, power quality, lightning, custom electromechanical test stands, etc.)
  • Knowledge of instrumentation and data acquisition systems
Required:
  • AA/AS degree (or other 2-year post high school training) with a minimum of 4 years relevant experience.
  • OR, In the absence of a HS diploma, GED or AA/AS degree, 6 years of relevant experience is required
  • OR, A Bachelor’s degree in the appropriate discipline and 2 years of relevant experience

  • Meets specific project milestones on assigned projects.
  • Completes supporting work to allow other team members to meet their project milestones.
  • Keeps resource demand up to date in Jira.
