Job description

Basic Function
Holly Energy Partners located in Cedar City, UT is seeking a Terminal Technician. The Terminal Technician executes the daily and weekly unloading schedule. Insuring that railcars are emptied in a safe and effective manner.
Job Duties
  • Completes training topics (e.g. Product Blending Tank Farm, Diesel and Heavy Oils Railcar Unloading) by reading documents, observing procedures, Active Learner Module and FOR School.
  • Prepares for emergency situations (e.g. tank overflow, underground pipe leak) by shutting down valves and pumps to stop all product flow, pumping product out of tanks, and notifying Lead Tech.
  • Prioritizes the blending and loading processes by using the "Daily Operating Instructions" (DOI) and/or daily loading schedules -reviewing categorized information (e.g. rundowns, blending requirements, loading comments).
  • Checks product quality in rail car, truck or tank by collecting lab samples using best practice sampling method, and visually looking for clarity and impurities.
  • Inspects equipment (e.g. pumps and tanks) by checking pressure gauges, oil levels, temperatures, and looking for leaks.
  • Inspects railcar, prior to unloading product, for cleanliness or damage, by observing for one wheel chocked, no leaks in body of railcar.
  • Checks lineups to verify correctness by walking and observing positions of valves, and verifying flow of product from and to destinations.
  • Unloads tank cars with product (e.g. Diesel Fuels, ethanol and gasoline), then opens valves.
  • Secures domes and caps on tank cars by using hand tools (e.g. wrenches, pneumatic tools).
  • Detects leaks by walking flow lines, making visual inspections of valves.
  • Prepares equipment for maintenance by following lockout tag out procedures (e.g. shutting down using power controls and breaker boxes, blocking lines, and isolating equipment).
  • Makes minor repairs (e.g. tightens packing, greases pump motors, fixes leaks) by using small hand tools such as wrenches, grease guns.
  • Reports all operational and equipment problems (e.g. seal leaking) to the supervisor for submitting a maintenance work request.

Special assignments or tasks assigned to the employee by their supervisor, as determined from time to time in their sole and complete discretion
Experience
A minimum of two years of job related experience is required.
Preferred Experience:
A minimum of two years of related mechanical, industrial, military, stationary equipment experience a plus
Education Level
A minimum of a High School Diploma or equivalent is required.
Preferred Education:
Continued education in mechanical or chemical related discipline
Required Skills
Intermediate knowledge of the pipeline and/or Terminal department. Working knowledge of DOT safety rules and regulations. Ability to make decisions as to operations and safety standards. Ability to make decisions as to operations and safety standards. Intermediate reading and writing skills with the ability to perform intermediate mathematical calculations. Ability to effectively communicate with others, both written and verbal communication.
Supervisory/Managerial Responsibility
Manages customers representatives and contractors while on company property.
Work Conditions
Field based. Petroleum refinery, out-of-doors environment and driver based environment, including but not limited to chemicals, pressure vessels, tanks, rotating equipment, exposure to the risk of electrical shock, and working in confined spaces. Subject to all temperatures. Must be available for 12 hour rotating shift scheduled through weekends, holidays, and after hour call-outs.
Physical Requirements
Job conditions require standing, walking, sitting, twisting, stooping, crouching, kneeling, talking or hearing, making visual inspections, perceiving color differences, making precise hand or finger movements, reaching or grasping, lifting and/or carrying up to 50 lbs, pushing and/or pulling up to 50 lbs, climbing up to 60 ft, strenuous physical activity, ability to operate and drive all assigned company vehicles at company standard insurance rates, ability to wear personal protective equipment personal protective equipment (beards not permitted).
