Shoreline CC Library
The Shoreline Community College library is a welcoming place with services and resources that support students, faculty, and staff across multiple modes of access including in-person and virtual access. These include reference services, instructional support, information literacy instruction, providing access to physical and virtual collections to support student information needs, programming to support student and information needs, collaborating across the college to support students, and providing a safe and accessible space for students to study.
Position 1- Outreach and Inclusion Librarian
The Outreach and Inclusion Librarian will lead and facilitate equity, diversity, and inclusion efforts with an emphasis on sustained action and cultural transformation through library outreach, programing, and public services in alignment with the college DEIA (Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, Accessibility) strategic plan. This position will develop and drive forward the key public service initiatives of the library, and lead efforts to address racial disparities in service delivery of library programs and services. The outreach and inclusion librarian will collaborate with college DEI leaders, multicultural faculty, the multicultural center, and international student services to ensure library services are equitable and accessible across diverse student populations. This position will work directly with Ethnic and Multicultural studies programs and be the library liaison to cultural centers on campus including the multicultural center, Gender Equity Center, and WAVES (Worthy of Achievement, Validation, Empowerment, and Success for Asian American and Native Hawaiian Pacific Islanders) center.
Position 2- Professional and Technical Programs Librarian
We have seen a growth in hands-on professional and technical programs at the community college level. Where libraries were once focused on the more traditional academic programs, the Professional Technical Program Librarian will directly support growing professional and technical programs including nursing, dental hygiene, automotive, manufacturing, and others through collection development, information literacy instruction, programming, and library services. This position will engage in outreach and collaboration with discipline faculty and students.
All tenure track librarians will participate in a core set of responsibilities for the library including instruction, reference, departmental liaison activities, outreach, and collection development under the direction of the Executive Director. All tenure track librarians will participate in library and college-wide planning and assessment projects through service on teams, committees, task forces, and special projects, and actively engage in networking and professional development through national/regional/local organizations.
Shoreline seeks candidates that can identify and mitigate the barriers to success that many students face and be passionate about creating an equitable learning environment that supports success for all students.

Qualifications

Required Education & Experience

  • Master's degree in Library and Information Science, Information Science, or Museum studiesfrom an American Library Association (ALA) accredited institution
  • One (1) year of working experience in a college library

Knowledge of
  • Microsoft 365 Suite including the Office apps/programs, Teams, One Drive, SharePoint, and use of shared calendars
  • Springshare LibApps, LibGuides, LibCal, LibAnswers, Libstaffer, and LibChat.
  • Library Management Systems such as ExLibris Alma, Primo, and OCLC Worldshare
  • Learning Management Systems such as Canvas
  • Collection development practices in college libraries

Skill in
  • Fostering a climate of equity and belonging through multicultural awareness and responsiveness
  • Imparting excitement and enthusiasm into the library and information services
  • Experience with or willingness to gain experience with teaching and developing coursework online
  • Contributing to equity and belonging through multicultural awareness and competence

    • Recognizing and anticipating the changing needs in the college ecosphere regarding library services
    • Contributing to equity by identifying and mitigating barriers for individual student learning
    • Developing library spaces, and programming to create comfort and refuge for all students
    • Developing library collections that support student use and highlight minoritized voices
    • Training and coordinating student peer library staff in collaboration with library circulation leadership
  • Professional & Technical Programs Librarian
    • Developing collections and services for nursing, dental hygiene, medical laboratory technology, and other health sciences fields and/or developing collections and services for automotive, manufacturing, engineering, and other professional technical fields.
    • Information literacy instruction, standards, and practices in the medical, automotive, manufacturing, and other professional technical fields
    • Outreach and collaboration with professional and technical programs

Conditions of Employment

Physical Work Environment:
The College is currently in mixed (both in-person and online) operations, with the option for some assignments to completed in an online environment based on program or area needs. If authorized by the College for remote (online) instruction, faculty will need to provide their own workspace and internet access, noting the College will provide technical equipment and support for online work needs. For on-campus in-person instruction, work is usually performed in a classroom/office space that requires standing and/or sitting for extended periods of time. Faculty typically use computers and media equipment in the work environment.
Term Of Employment/Salary:
This is a full-time, tenure track position, with a 172-day annual contract beginning September 19, 2024. Salary placement is determined by the number of qualifying years of teaching/work experience combined with educational preparation. Hiring of this position is contingent upon available funding as determined by the College President.

PART-TIME FACULTY POSITIONS
A part time faculty member becomes eligible for benefits at the beginning of the second consecutive quarter of half time or more employment at one or more Washington state institutions of higher education. Spring and fall quarters are considered consecutive quarters for benefits eligibility. Half time is determined based on each institution's definition of full time.
A part time faculty member must qualify each quarter they teach to maintain eligibility. Once eligible, part time faculty will be notified of their benefit and retirement options.
