Art Education is an interdisciplinary department that embodies artist-centered, justice-based, community-engaged contemporary practice. Within the first public art college in the country, our vibrant department includes BFA and graduate programs. The successful candidate will primarily teach courses that support students through the challenges and joys of student teaching as well as pedagogy and/or creative practices.
This position is governed by the MSCA collective bargain agreement.
Salary: $64,000-74,000
Requirements:
Minimum Qualifications
- Master's Degree in Education, Fine Arts or Directly Related Field. A terminal degree is required for promotion and tenure
- Experience with teaching that centers students' joy and criticality in public K-12 settings
- Experience working with children, youth, families, schools, and educational systems that have been historically marginalized, especially in urban contexts
- Demonstrated collaborative partnership experience
- Demonstrated commitment to social justice, access, and equity in education
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience supervising or mentoring teachers
- Familiarity with state certification requirements
- Expertise in educational policy and history
- Capacity to teach developmental theory
- A Terminal degree (MFA/PhD/EdD)
- Expertise, scholarly or otherwise, supporting racialized, ethno-linguistically diverse and refugee learners
- Active art/creative practice
- Demonstrated expertise in culturally-responsive pedagogy
- Interest in contemporary art discourse and practice
