Tennis Instructor – Summer 2024
Game...Set...are you the Match? If you have a passion for tennis, and want to share your talent and knowledge of the game, then you’re the match for the position of Tennis Instructor in the Westwood Recreation Department. The Tennis Instructor will provide lessons and guide skill development for groups of children ages 5-12 during morning hours this summer (with possibility of afternoon hours depending on enrollment) from June 24 - August 23, 2024.
Responsibilities and duties include the following:
- Design and implement a variety of tennis-related games, lessons and activities that incorporate tennis basics to beginner level skills.
- Work with an Assistant Instructor to keep students engaged and active while on the court by implementing structured tennis drills that incorporate fun and achievable challenges.
- Impart the general rules of tennis, to include sportsmanship, scoring and court etiquette.
- Offer positive reinforcement and strive to make the lessons fun and productive.
- Provide and maintain a safe environment indoors and outdoors for all participants.
- Enforce all health and safety regulations, and relay any concerns to the Recreation Program Manager.
- Ensure the general well-being and skill development of class participants.
- Offer high quality recreational experiences that focus on the Recreation Department’s core values of safety, fun, responsibility and respect.
Qualifications and experience:High School graduate with a minimum of 3 years teaching or coaching experience. Proven record of advanced tennis play. An ability to connect with a wide range of ages and playing levels. Group supervision of children is required. Excellent communication skills essential. First Aid and CPR certifications are required within the first 90 days of employment (Westwood Recreation offers convenient staff classes for a reduced fee).
Schedule requirements: Monday - Friday, June 24 – August 23, 2024
- 8:00 – 9:00 AM: Lessons for Little Lobbers (5-6 years old) or Beginners (7-8 years old)
- 9:00 AM - 12:00 PM: Clinic for participants 9-12 years old
Salary: This is a seasonal, non-benefit position with an hourly rate between $20.00 - $25.00 depending on experience and certifications.
