Job Designation
The Heavy Winding Assembler, with limited supervision, provides direct support to production processes, including the check of first piece production articles (as produced by other associates) to determine compliance to drawings and manufacturing outlines. Priority is given to the elimination of waste through the elimination of rework and scrap by way of first piece oversight. This role reports into the Value Stream Supervisor and Production Team Lead.
Job Core Responsibilities
Performs winding tasks requiring a broad knowledge of the following:
•Prep Toroid core as necessary prior to winding.
•Hand tensioning skills and the use of a variety of dereelers and tensioning devices for a wide range of wire gauges.
•Winding machine set-ups, coil parts, tooling and measuring equipment.
•Foot and hand control techniques to control winding machine speeds and breaking.
•Insulation materials, their physical and electrical properties, and their application requirements.
•Taping materials and requirements.
•Electrical parameters and considerations as to proper coil designs.
•Winding drawings including sketches and oral instruction.
•Preparation of winding, Manufacturing Outlines (M.O.s) for new coil designs.
•Regular, consistent and punctual attendance is required. May need to work nights and weekends, variable schedule(s) and additional hours as necessary.

•May assist in training other associates as necessary.
General Assembly Operations:
Performs winding of coils by one or more of the following techniques with little to no supervision:
•Hand Winding
•Single coil; layer or bobbin winding
•Multiple coil; layer or bobbin winding
•Foil winding
•Soldering
•Inspection
•Mechanical Assembly
•Bonding or Gluing
•Basic Testing
•Other specialized processes as required by Manufacturing Outlines (M.O.s)
•Toroid winding
•Winds special jobs or prototypes for over 50% of the time
Equipment Used: One or more of the various types of winding machines including: Atlas, Stevens, Multiple, 301, Toroid, Foil and /or including Hand Winding
May use any or all of the following:
•Variety of hand tools and hand powered tools
•Soldering irons and pots
•Small torches
•High temperature soldering irons
•Ovens
•Degreasers
•Bench grinders
•Drill and arbor presses
•Material shears, hand & mechanical
•Wire Strippers
•Insulation cutters
•Crimpers
•Lead formers
•Hand and power banders
•Calipers
•Thread Gauges
•Microscopes & special production equipment
•Test fixtures
Equipment Set Up:
•Winding set up including placement of magnet wire spools, insulation kit, tape dispensers, soldering equipment, wire dereelers, etc.
•Adjustment of magnet wire dereelers within a wide range of wire gauges.
•Attachment of winding forms or mandrels to winding machines.
•Set-up shuttles and guides for Toroid machines for a wide range of wire gauges.
•Set-up hand winding station with proper shuttles and core holding devices and counters.
•Set-up winding machine counter, traverse, stops, speed etc.
•Set-up calipers, rulers or other go/no-go measuring gauges.
Job Specifications
Education: A Secondary Certificate/High School Diploma or equivalent combination of relevant education and work experience that will allow successful performance of job expectations.
Years' Experience: Two (2) to four (4) years electronics and/or winding assembly experience.
Skills:
•Must have above average knowledge of assembly drawings, parts lists, schematics, MIL specs, standard test procedures, M.O.s, wiring diagrams, electro-mechanical theory, etc.
•Capable of performing basic mathematics, ability to multiply and divide fractions
•Good mechanical aptitude
•Able to operate a variety of hand tools and machinery
•Must be able to communicate verbally and in writing to individual's and/or groups
•Able to problem-solve using existing procedures to perform straightforward tasks
•Must be able to lift 10 - 40 pounds, unassisted, 8 hours a day
•Must be able to lift 50 - 100+ pounds, assisted, 8 hours a day
