Description
Performs a variety of Traffic Control Setups following FDOT standards and customer specifications involving lane closures and flagging services. This position ensures a safe and effective environment, demonstrating a professional, safety-first attitude at all times. The Temporary Traffic Controller must be able to physically install and monitor Traffic Control signs throughout their working day while maintaining safety, and thoroughly communicating with others throughout their shift. Experience with flagging and/or lane closure operations preferred.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
· Follow directions and comply with company policies
· Flag traffic on job sites
· Set up lane closures/detours etc.
· Set up barrels/cones on job site
· Work site set up, maintenance, and cleanup
· Monitor traffic conditions and equipment throughout jobsite
· Load/unload MOT Signs, cones, and equipment
· Direct traffic at job sites and carry out other traffic management activities
· Signal operators of construction equipment to facilitate alignment and movement of materials
· Maintain clean work area by disposing of trash and debris properly
· Perform daily maintenance and safety checks of equipment
· Other duties as assigned
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
· Flagger training, Intermediate, or Advanced certification
· Reliable transportation to and from work
· Ability to operate a variety of tools and equipment such as hand tools, power tools and motorized equipment
· Ability to listen and follow directions
· Able to communicate effectively with customer, jobsite supervisor, and co-workers
· Ability to pass flagger certificate training
· Demonstrate a safety-first attitude. Strict adherence to safety requirements and procedures
· Display a professional and courteous attitude to co-workers, supervisors, customers, and the general public
· Ability to work nights and weekends when necessary
· Ability to work early morning shifts and 10-hour days as necessary, staying alert and maintaining a safe environment for the duration of the shift
· Must have reliable transportation, and ability to travel to assigned worksites
· Pass a pre-employment drug screen and maintain a drug free status
Physical Demands
· Walk or stand for extended periods of time throughout the day
· Intermittent sitting; continuous walking on construction site.
· Occasionally twist, bend, stoop, kneel and crouch to perform duties
· Occasionally reach above shoulder level
· Carry up to 50 pounds without assistance
· Frequently climb into and out of a pickup truck
· Wear appropriate PPE (hard hat, gloves, vest, steel-toed boots)
· Work in all weather conditions, works outside
Education / Experience:
· High School diploma or general education degree (GED)
· Experience working as MOT Flagger, or equivalent laborer experience, preferred
· Active Driver’s license
