Statement of the Job:

To teach Intensive English Institute (IEI) classes to English Language Learners. Prepare students for academic and practical English skills necessary to succeed as matriculated students in the University of Maine or achieve other goals for which English language skills are required. Part-time for 15 hours a week for one IEI session. Occasional work beyond these hours may be required to fulfill the responsibilities of this position. This temporary position pays an hourly rate of $25.00.  

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Teach IEI classes as assigned. 
  • Foster a positive, interactive and dynamic learning environment
  • Utilize current ESOL (English for Speakers of Other Languages) pedagogies and practices.
  • Utilize formative and summative assessments to track students' progress. 
  • Advise students as needed
  • Participate in IEI staff meetings, IEI orientation and other IEI events. 
  • Perform other duties as assigned. 

 

Current sessions available:

  • Fall A session from 8/21/23 to 10/20/23
  • Fall B session from 10/16/23 to 12/15/23
  • Spring A session from 1/8/24 to 3/8/24
  • Spring B session from 3/14/24 to 5/3/24
  • Summer session from 5/27/24 to 7/31/24

Qualifications:

Required:

  • Bachelor's Degree from an accredited institution
  • Experience studying, working, or teaching abroad
  • Strong intercultural communication skills are a must
  • Flexibility, teaching skills, and cultural sensitivity
  • Ability to travel locally, requiring a valid driver's license

Preferred:

  • Ability to speak more than one language
  • Previous ESOL teaching
