CLASS SUMMARY
NATURE OF WORK:
The Camp Lead Instructor facilitates the nature-based art and Science Camp programs ages 6-12 year old with the assistance of 1-2 camp counselors. Camps will be held Monday through Friday 9am-4pm June 24- August 16, No camp the week of 4th of July 2024. The camps will rotate every other week as either an art camp or Science Camps. The instructor is to have a strong background in biology or related sciences. The Summer Camp Leader works under the supervision of the Corbin Art Center. The Lead Instructor is responsible for the overall supervision of camp counselors, participants, providing them with a healthy, safe, and enjoyable camp environment and experience. Furthermore, the ideal candidate will have a genuine passion for building strong team culture, inspiring, and empowering young people. They also should be dynamic communicators, detail oriented, fun-loving, and confident in their ability to motivate and assist staff and campers.
Activities may include nature based and fine art projects and activities, environmental learning and awareness, water quality, tree identification, weather, flora and fauna of the area, bird watching, active group and team building activities.

RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Attend instructor trainings and orientation session in June prior to camp.
  • Follow camp safety policy and procedures.
  • Work with the Corbin Art Center Director and Summer Day Camp at Merkel Program Supervisors to implement the summer program.
  • Work with camp staff to develop lesson plans, assist with camps, organize class project prep, and develop related special programs.
  • Set-up & clean-up each day.
  • Transitions to and from scheduled events and lessons.
  • Managing behavior and interpersonal conflicts.
  • Communication with supervisor, staff, participants, and parents.
  • Maintaining an inventory of equipment and supplies.
  • Maintain supply storage areas.
  • Housekeeping to include daily mopping bathroom floors & restocking supplies.
  • Additional duties as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
  • Must be 21 years of age or older.
  • Must be able to work up to 8 hours/ day outdoors in summer weather.

Other desirable skills
  • Teaching experience with science programs for elementary or middle school-aged students
  • Leadership experience
  • Youth development
  • Recreation management
  • Previous experience working at summer day camps.
  • CPR, First Aid, AED certifications preferred. Training provided if needed.
  • Excellent communication skills
