Under the supervision of the Senior Manager Purchasing - F&B, this position is responsible for the daily purchasing and inventory management of a wide range of goods and services supporting Madison Square Garden (MSG) Food and Beverage (F&B) Operations, including Madison Square Garden Arena, Radio City Music Hall, The Beacon Theater, The Chicago Theater, The Theater at MSG and Knicks and Ranger Training Center
What will you do?
The F&B Temp Buyer will support MSG in execution of procurement strategies for these goods and services.
The unique and often difficult operating conditions at Madison Square Garden (lack of storage space, challenging delivery logistics, heavy event load / product usage, uncertain demand, long lead times) require the F&B Buyer to develop creative solutions to address purchasing and inventory requirements.
As a member of the F&B Purchasing Team, the F&B Buyer will cross-train and provide support to other areas, as needed

What will you do?
- Tactical buying for all Food, Beverage, and Paper/Packaging products
- Analyzing requisitions from multiple location
- Placing orders through Eatec, MSG's inventory and purchasing system
- Confirming and reconciling orders with Vendors
- Handling solutions for Out of Stocks
- Communicating with vendors for late/missed deliveries
- Reacting and solving "shorts" at time of delivery, in a "Just In Time" Inventory process, resolving immediately
- Fostering professional relationships with Sales Reps and Vendors, to create an amicable and productive work environment
- Liaison with Security for deliveries

What do you need to succeed?
- Broad and in-depth knowledge of Food & Beverage, paper, cleaning supply, and uniform industries. Knowledge of industry terminology. Understanding of product specifications, costs, performance levels, suitability for MSG environment, after-purchase maintenance needs.
- Strong oral and written communication skills. Ability to obtain clear communication of needs from user community through a combination of diplomacy and precise requirements gathering. Able to translate user needs into technical requirements appropriate to the specific product / industry and convey requirements to vendors in a clear and effective manner.
- Able to perform effectively under pressure. Handling several tasks simultaneously.
- Ability to exercise good judgment and sound decision making, often without complete information.
- Awareness of vendor performance, reputation, suitability for working with MSG.
- Ability to follow process and strategy set forth by managers.
- Experience with Purchasing Systems especially Eatec, the systems used by Madison Square Garden, and with MS Excel.
- Knowledge of applicable laws and company policies regarding purchasing, vendor relations, and sales tax.
