Arkansas PBS is seeking a Multi-Media Journalist/Editor for its Public Affairs department which produces the program "Arkansas Week," political debates, streams live government meetings and events on the Arkansas Citizens Access Network (AR-CAN) webpage and will be involved in future digital projects.

This position will be responsible for daily research on local and state public affairs and editing "Arkansas Week" within deadlines and standards of quality set by Arkansas PBS.

The ideal candidate will be someone who regularly follows Arkansas news and politics with the ability to research, gather, and pitch news stories to the Director of Public Affairs and Arkansas Week Producer focused on local and state topics in Arkansas.  The position is also responsible for scheduling, planning, and recording live stream events for Arkansas PBS' ARCAN programming.

The person must work collaboratively with team members to meet the needs of the agency and specifically the public affairs department under the direction of the Director of Public Affairs.

Responsibilities include:

  • Research, gather and develop program ideas relevant to Arkansas local and statewide topics for Arkansas Week, and edit Arkansas Week and other public affairs content.
  • Schedule, plan, and film ARCAN content
  • Aid the Producer and Director of Public Affairs in the production of live or taped public affairs programming.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in journalism or related field, plus two years of experience in the radio/television industry or a related field.

Preferred Qualification:

  • Experience or education in editing utilizing non-linear editing software including Premiere Pro

Must have a valid driver's license.

Summary
The Television Producer is responsible for planning, coordinating, and producing television programs for professional development, documentaries, and/or entertainment using a variety television related media. This position is governed by state and federal laws and agency/institution policy.
Functions
Supervises technical personnel by interviewing, recommending for hire, training, administering disciplinary action if needed, and evaluating performance. Communicates with development and budget teams to outline project goals, needs, objectives, and to establish a budget. Coordinates and supervises television production activities by assigning staff, and determining equipment needs and production location. Oversees live and taped programs by directing staff and monitoring equipment. Conducts television production meetings to keep technical staff informed of program goals and to exchange information Participates in and conducts meetings to discuss new production ideas or debriefings. Reviews media to assist in editing and selects music and accompanying visuals that explain the audio portion of the program. Presents program to supervisor for final review and makes changes if necessary. Perform other duties as assigned.
Dimensions
Frequent in and out-of-state travel and non-traditional work hours are required.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Knowledge of television production techniques and procedures. Knowledge of television program planning. Knowledge of set design, studio lighting, and operation of television equipment. Knowledge of copyright laws and rights of privacy. Knowledge of current television media and applicable software. Ability to write narratives and make oral presentations. Ability to plan, organize, and direct the work of subordinates. Ability to communicate with clients and peers. Ability to establish client relationships. Ability to create and monitor budgets.
Minimum Qualifications

The formal education equivalent of a bachelors degree in radio/television or a related field; plus two years of experience in the radio/television industry or a related field, including one year in a supervisory capacity. Additional requirements determined by the agency for recruiting purposes require review and approval by the Office of Personnel Management. OTHER JOB RELATED EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE MAY BE SUBSTITUTED FOR ALL OR PART OF THESE BASIC REQUIREMENTS, EXCEPT FOR CERTIFICATION OR LICENSURE REQUIREMENTS, UPON APPROVAL OF THE QUALIFICATIONS REVIEW COMMITTEE.

Licenses

Must possess a valid Arkansas drivers license.
