Job Summary:
The Company is looking for a Telecom Engineer II to join our team in either Madison, WI or Cedar Rapids, IA. Our team gets hands-on experience with optical networking, fiber planning and construction, microwave route planning and development, tower construction and maintenance, FCC interfaces and studies, SCADA connections, smart-grid and smart-metering and all of the other aspects of providing a data overlay to a functional power and gas operation.
We work in a complex environment where your specific expertise can be applied, and where you can also get involved with different applications that may challenge and enrich your view of communications technology. This position could travel up to 20% of time.
What you will do:

  • Assist with design, deployment, and support of networks involving IPsec VPNs, BGP/MPLS/OSPF topologies and combined transport mediums on a wide variety of equipment.
  • Assist in the design and administration of network systems including microwave, fiber optics, leased circuits, packet radio, spread spectrum and other carrier and wireless technologies.
  • Assist with ongoing maintenance and documentation of connected operational sites and evolving IoT elements.
  • Assist with ensuring compliance to government rules and regulations.
Required Qualifications:
  • 2 years of related experience.
  • Hardware installation experience.
  • Participate in on-call rotations, including outside business hours; must be prepared to travel as required.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or Information Technology with an emphasis in networks, telecommunications, voice and/or collaboration technologies.
  • Detailed understanding of TCP/IP, IPv4/IPv6, ISDN, and other common network protocols
  • Experience with layer 1, 2, 3 technologies, including OTN, MPLS, BGP, OSPF.
  • Experience with optical networking or DWDM equipment.
  • Experience or certifications with routing and switching equipment; Cisco, Juniper, or Arista.
  • Understanding of QoS and other traffic control strategies.
  • Experience with cloud architectures and network automation.
  • Working knowledge of information technology networking.
  • Excellent troubleshooting skills
  • Python scripting and automation.
Salary Range: $75,000 - $89,000
