Director of Teen Programs (full time)

Leading the Change in Youth Development

At Boys & Girls Clubs of Hilton Head Island (the “Club”), we are a leader in youth development, providing a safe, affordable place for kids and teens during critical out-of-school time (after school and summer). Our Clubs offer life-changing programs and services to approximately 300 local youth.

Position Summary:

The Director of Teen Programs is responsible for serving as advocate for teen members and providing after-school tutoring and career/higher education guidance to teen members. This position is responsible for overall operation, growth and sustainability of the Teen Center. This position is responsible for planning and implementation of age-appropriate local and national teen programs to keep teens on track to graduate on time with a plan for their future.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

  1. Programs, activities and special events are implemented with goals and objectives designed to meet the interests and needs for youth in grades 6 – 12. Areas of focus include, but are not limited to, Character and Leadership Development, Education and Career Development, Health and Life Skills (including Social & Emotional Well-Being).
  2. Provide monthly program calendar to include special events, outreach events to recruit new teens and teen nights (Friday night activities). Coordinate with other program managers within the Club to ensure quality programs are delivered to the teens. This includes the responsibility of ensuring that the Club maintains an active Keystone and Torch Club which includes maintaining the charter, elections of officers, monthly meetings and active engagement by Club members in Keystone and Torch Club projects and events.
  3. Ensure a positive, fun, safe and engaging climate for all programs at all times.
  4. Develop a positive relationship with members, parents/guardians, volunteers, guests as well as coordinates with teachers and the school system.
  5. Track attendance, volunteer hours and participation for all teen programs. Pre and Post-test data collection for assigned programs.
  6. Act as advocate to older teens (ages 15 to 18) and provide them with a variety of programs to prepare them to transition out of the Club upon high-school graduation. Programming options should include, but are not limited to, career exploration (BGCA's Career Launch), mentoring (inviting local business owners and/or managers) in the Club and college field trips (i.e. USCB & TCL) and college admission preparation (Diplomas2Degrees) and "Life After the Club".
  7. Supervise and discipline of members based on Club rules, policies and procedures.
  8. Provide guidance to members, act as role model.
  9. Ensure safety, positive values and ethical behavior through quality programs, and the appearance of the Club, at all times.
  10. Maintain equipment, supplies and facilities.
  11. Participate in program/service outcome measurement processes and other evaluation programs including BGCA's Commitment to Quality. Other administrative duties include, but are not limited to, tracking documentation of members in the in-school program, data collection, administering questionnaires, convening focus groups and older teen exit interviews and a variety of written reports.
  12. Assist with Club fundraisers as needed.
  13. Participate in meetings related to various programs and activities and inform Program Director of progress and/or changes to programs and goals.
  14. May be required to drive Club van for teen field trips and special events
  15. Working with Program Director, control expenditures and make recommendations

for expenditures, as they relate to the programs.

  1. Ensure The Boys & Girls Club of HHI Teen Program is meeting the Lowcountry Organization's membership and attendance goals, proper record keeping and program results for grant funded programs. Collect and report on data as needed to support the grants process.
  2. When appropriate, supervise partners and volunteers who can offer instruction/support to teen members. Train on safety and ensures compliance with safety policies for the Teen Center.
  3. Participate in individual and group supervision sessions and periodic professional development opportunities.
  4. Participates in special programs, events and other projects as directed by Program Director.
  5. Maintain regular contact with Operations Director, Club staff, Club members and parents, to receive/provide information, discuss issues, explain or interpret guidelines/instructions. The Director of Teen Programs is expected to collaborate effectively with peers and other staff of the Boy & Girls Clubs of Hilton Head Island (BGCHHI) organization and as needed with Boys & Girls Club of America and larger community to increase effectiveness and engagement with youth in our community.
  6. Establish & maintain contact and good public relations with external community groups, schools, members’ parents/guardians, building and community partners and others as necessary to maintain and grow a successful youth program.
  7. Must be available to work Monday – Friday; occasional Saturdays.

QUALIFICATIONS, KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university, or equivalent experience.
  • 2+ years working within a youth development program or agency in a leadership role is required.
  • Direct experience developing and delivering a wide variety of programming and support services for teens.
  • Experience managing others
  • Knowledge of trends in educational planning, career exploration, community service and leadership activities for teens.
  • Required proficiency with Microsoft Office Applications: Word, Excel and PowerPoint,

as well as other software, and web competency required.

  • Group leadership skills with an understanding of group dynamics and classroom management is required.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills required.
  • Ability to work with youth and families from a variety of backgrounds.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Flexibility to work clubhouse hours especially as seasons and service needs change.
  • Bi-lingual in English and Spanish a plus.

  • Must pass background check and drug screening
  • Must possess valid driver’s license and be in good standing with the Division of Motor Vehicle
  • COVID-19 procedures require staff to wear masks, practice Club social distancing protocols and consent to temperature checks.
  • Current CPR and First Aid Certifications or ability to complete within 30 days of employment


HOURS:
Monday – Friday; occasional Saturdays

LOCATION: 151 Gumtree Road,Hilton Head Island, SC

SALARY RANGE: $38,000 - $42,000 per year

FLSA: Salaried/Exempt

This position works both indoors and outdoors (weather permitting) and moderate physical activities may be required. Due to the fact that the facility serves children and teens, the noise level in the work environment is moderate.
