Organization: Boys and Girls Clubs of San Leandro

Location: San Leandro, CA (Headquarters)

Hours: MW 11am-7pm & TThF 12pm-8pm

Salary: $65,000 - $70,000 per year

Position Description:

The Teen Café Coordinator is responsible for the overall operation and management of the Teen Café, a new workforce readiness program at the San Leandro Boys & Girls Club that provides teens with hands-on experience in hospitality and restaurant management. The Coordinator will work with teens to develop and implement the Teen Café business plan, annual budget, manage inventory, prepare and serve food, and provide customer service. The Coordinator will also be responsible for training and supervising teen staff, partnership management, grant reporting and deliverables, evaluating the program's success, maintaining the café and Clubhouse kitchen equipment through standard operational program procedures that comply with county health inspection protocol.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Prepare and/or coordinate the daily food service for teens (e.g. lunch and dinner).
  • Establish health, safety and operational protocols for the main commercial kitchen
  • Oversee the overall day to day operation and management of the Teen Café.
  • Monitor daily expenses
  • Maintain updated records of daily, weekly, and monthly revenue and expenses
  • Manage teen-staff scheduled shifts
  • Develop and implement the Teen Café business plan, including setting goals, creating a budget, and developing marketing and sales strategies.
  • Manage inventory, including ordering and receiving supplies, storing food and supplies safely, and tracking inventory levels.
  • Prepare and serve food to teens and customers, following all food safety guidelines.
  • Provide classroom training to a cohort of teens, covering topics such as basic economics, business plan development, marketing, industry standards, food safety, marketing, customer relations, and inventory control.
  • Hire, train and supervise teen staff, including teaching them how to prepare and serve food, provide customer service, and operate the Teen Café equipment.
  • Collaborate with our food partner/s to ensure program success and alignment with industry standards.
  • Ensure all areas are clean, safe and hazard free
Requirements:
  • Culinary Certificate and/or a minimum of two years of experience in hospitality and restaurant management.
  • Work experience as a Cafe Manager or Barista.
  • Hands-on experience with professional coffee machines and managing a commercial kitchen.
  • Availability to work within Teen Center opening hours (including weekends on occasion)
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to manage and motivate a team
  • Customer service attitude
  • Strong leadership and management skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Experience in training and supervising teen staff.
  • Excellent customer service skills.
  • Partner and Business Development Experience.
  • Ability to evaluate program success and make necessary adjustments.
  • Preferred Qualifications: Experience with business planning and financial management, Experience with food safety and preparation, Experience teaching/training and supervising staff.
  • High school diploma or equivalent.

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to stand for extended periods of time.
  • Capable of lifting items up to 25 pounds.
  • Comfortable working in a fast-paced environment.
