MINIMUM PAY RATE: $44,327.08 annually

POSITION SUMMARY
Prepares laboratories for biology and chemistry classes; monitors and maintains laboratories and equipment; ensures the safety and security of laboratories; ensures proper handling and disposal of hazardous materials; performs daily care of all lab organisms; coordinates laboratory work with main campus lab supervisors. Handles preserved materials and cadavers. Work assignment may be split between Main and Romeoville Campuses.
ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES AND KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Prepare laboratory setups and chemical solutions for biology and chemistry classes. Coordinate all preparations with biological and physical sciences lab supervisors at JJC Main Campus.
2. Prepare microbiological culture media.
3. Monitor laboratories, clean and store materials after experiments are completed.
4. Handle preserved materials and perform cadaver maintenance as required.
5. Perform daily care and feeding of all laboratory organisms.
6. Maintain inventory of chemistry and biology supplies and equipment.
7. Design and improve laboratory areas as directed.
8. Ensure the safety and security of the laboratories, proper handling and disposal of hazardous chemical and bio-hazard waste.
9. Coordinate laboratory work with Main campus lab supervisors and/or instructors.
10. Maintain MSDS files for chemicals on hand.
11. Perform related duties as assigned.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
1. Associate's Degree in Biological or Chemical Sciences.
2. Ability to use computerized technology, laboratory equipment and apparatus.
3. Working knowledge of MS Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
4. Attentiveness to detail, multitasking and initiative; with ability to work accurately, efficiently and cooperatively with a diverse population. 5. Ability to work a flexible schedule required; may include evenings and some weekends and/or
work assignments at Main and Romeoville Campuses.
6. Ability to establish and maintain cooperative and effective working relationships with other members of the college and community, displaying cultural competence as well as emotional intelligence.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
1. Successful related work experience in a position of equivalent responsibility.
2. Familiarity with both Mac and PC computers.
3. Working knowledge of chemical handling, disposal and safety procedures.
4. English and Spanish verbal and written communication proficiency.
5. Demonstrated multicultural competence.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
1. Normal office physical demands.
2. Ability to travel between campus locations as needed. 3. Some moderate lifting required.
WORKING CONDITIONS
1. Duties are performed indoors in the usual office and/or outdoor environment.
2. All work is to be coordinated with the biological and physical sciences lab supervisors at JJC main campus.
