Job Description
GEM Technologies, Inc. (GEM) is seeking a Technical Writer & Editor to join our team. This position is full-time and will support the Los Alamos National Laboratory in Los Alamos, NM in a remote capacity, but employees must live within 2 hours of the site.

Overview:

Clearance & Citizenship Requirement:
- To be considered, you must be able to obtain and maintain a government issued clearance, if needed.
- Due to the federal nature of the work, a U.S. Citizenship is required.
Desired Skills:
- Experience with PDMLink or similar data management system and procedure writing and editing will set you apart from other candidates.
About the Site:
The NNSA's Los Alamos National Laboratory (LANL), located in Los Alamos, New Mexico, is a design laboratory responsible for the safety and reliability of the nuclear explosives package in nuclear weapons. This lab possesses unique capabilities in neutron scattering, enhanced surveillance, radiography, and plutonium science and engineering (energy.gov).
Requirements:
- Bachelor’s Degree in communications, journalism, and English and 5+ years of relevant experience.
- Extremely detail-oriented with initiative and the ability to quickly adapt to an intense and highly technical environment.
- Knowledge of English grammar and punctuation and extensive experience in technical editing and writing, able to translate complex concepts and material into detailed procedures.
- Advanced proficiency using Microsoft Word with a solid understanding of Word styles and templates.
- Intermediate to advanced skills in Adobe Acrobat, Excel, and PowerPoint, including PowerPoint-specific formatting.
- Solid understanding of file structure and organization.
- Demonstrated expertise in providing guidance on technical writing skills to staff including template development and user training.
- Skilled at identifying and supporting process and tool improvement efforts.
- Ability to learn and comprehend new technical concepts and terminology.
- Demonstrate excellence in written and oral communication, problem-solving, and customer service and interpersonal skills.
- Strong, proactive communicator and have experience working with technical subject matter experts.
- Ability to work on multiple, sometimes conflicting, deliverables and deadlines in a high-pressure work environment where priorities frequently shift.
- Demonstrate the ability to maintain professional and courteous interactions with team members, technical personnel both inside and outside the assigned organization, and a wide range of managers to ensure priorities are understood, issues are identified and resolved, and deliverables are met.
- Experience with document control/management systems.
- This position is located in Los Alamos, NM–employees must live within a 2-hour drive of the Laboratory and perform any onsite work required.
