Position Summary
As a member of the Engineering team, the person in this position develops technical product line information for the purpose of authoring/illustrating technical documentation and service parts documentation.
Essential Functions
  • Observes production, developmental, and experimental activities to determine operating procedure and detail.
  • Interviews production and engineering personnel and reads other material to become familiar with product technologies and installation methods.
  • Develops, writes, illustrates, edits, and maintains information for internal and external use such as installation and user manuals, service parts pages, instruction sheets, interactive and multimedia support documentation.
  • Studies blueprints, drawings, and bill of materials.
  • Implements and maintains an information management system for all Technical Publications.
  • Collaborates with management, technical support team, factory staff, quality assurance, and other subject matter experts to produce clear/accurate product documentation.
  • Collaborates with printers and oversees the printing/packing of documentation to ship with product.
  • Is responsible to ensure multimedia documentation is uploaded onto the website and the website is current with information.
  • Attends and reports at regular team meetings.
  • Performs and implements technical and peer reviews of product documentation.
  • Understands various user levels and writes to the appropriate level. Adheres to and/or creates department standards, process procedures, including templates and style guides.
  • Is responsible to manage projects from the point of when a template is created, document is written, edited, printed, and packed with product.
  • Ensures product line information is packed/shipped with product and uploaded onto the website.
  • Performs other duties as assigned, such as designing general internal forms, and publications.

Qualifications
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Good analytical and problem-solving skills with an aptitude for technical concepts.
  • Able to create, understand, and communicate technical info in a concise/effective manner.
  • Able to write for different audiences.
  • Able to contribute as a team member and independently.
  • Ability to work on multiple projects at the same time.
  • Ability to research and understand new technologies.
  • Able to read and understand CAD drawings.
  • Able to work within Solidworks, Visual Cad, Illustrator.
  • Able to write within InDesign, Microsoft Office.
  • Must be able to work independently.

Education, Training, Experience
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Technical Communications or equivalent experience.
  • Experience with screen capturing, creating illustrations and diagrams, or graphics manipulation.
  • 5-10 years of technical writing experience within a manufacturing environment is preferred.
  • Experience in technical documentation and animation in 3D CAD, Adobe product environments, or similar software is preferred.
  • Understand the concept of hyperlinking, QR Coding, to be utilized within documents.
  • Experienced in authoring within ISO Standardized Documentation.
  • Managing projects from beginning to being packed with product.

Working Conditions and Physical Demands
Long periods of sitting and working at a computer are required, with regular exposure to the factory. Sedentary work is performed in an office with little to no exposure to extreme weather or hazardous conditions. Typical office equipment such as a computer, laptop, and phone are used. May be noisy due to proximity to factory. This position requires regular exposure to the factory, which includes extreme weather conditions; noisy, dusty, and dirty environments; and motorized equipment that pose potential safety hazards. Reaching above shoulder height and below the waist, as well as lifting up to 30 lbs. is required. Proper safety procedures, lifting techniques, and personal protective equipment guidelines are always to be followed. Travel may be requested to any company manufacturing and branch locations in the US and Canada.
