Job Description

Confluent is pioneering a fundamentally new category of data infrastructure focused on data in motion. Have you ever found a new favorite series on Netflix, picked up groceries curbside at Walmart, or paid for something using Square? That's the power of data in motion in action-giving organizations instant access to the massive amounts of data that is constantly flowing throughout their business. At Confluent, we're building the foundational platform for this new paradigm of data infrastructure. Our cloud-native offering is designed to be the intelligent connective tissue enabling real-time data, from multiple sources, to constantly stream across the organization. With Confluent, organizations can create a central nervous system to innovate and win in a digital-first world.

We're looking for self-motivated team members who crave a challenge and feel energized to roll up their sleeves and help realize Confluent's enormous potential. Chart your own path and take healthy risks as we solve big problems together. We value having diverse teams and want you to grow as we grow-whether you're just starting out in your career or managing a large team, you'll be amazed at the magnitude of your impact.

About the Role:

The Experiences And Interfaces (E&I) team has a broad charter to impact all of Confluent's Engineering organization: deliver intuitive, easy to use products and features that enable data processing on a data in motion platform that is easy to try, buy, operate and develop on.

As a Technical Program Manager (TPM), your day-to-day functions involve juggling multiple Kafka initiatives across numerous teams, stakeholder functions (Product, Security, etc.), and geographies. While closely monitoring dependencies with other orgs, you will also help with planning, prioritization, risk management, stakeholder reporting, operations and tradeoffs. A cross-org strategic view is particularly important for managing these projects within the lens of horizontal, multi-quarter projects.

Driving these initiatives requires prior experience managing cloud programs, having an operational focus, experience with cross-group dependency management, the ability to deep-dive into technical issues and organizational problem-solving. A big focus for the TPM here would be to shield the development teams from chaos and streamline processes for smooth and successful on-schedule delivery of long-ranging programs.

Programs you own may span complex technical projects involving improving performance and scalability, multi region DR etc. Hence strong knowledge of cloud fundamentals as well as data streaming is necessary to deep-dive into technical areas to support these programs successfully.

What You Will Do:

+ Work with stakeholders to drive cross-cutting and critical initiatives for the company.

+ Ensure we can deliver projects on time, regularly communicating progress and status to key stakeholders.

+ Proactively identify and resolve roadblocks/challenges affecting projects.

+ Train and help other leaders to become better in program management.

+ Make technical decisions to keep projects running smoothly.

+ Explain technical architecture, decisions, and tradeoffs to both engineering and other functions.

+ Work with Engineering, Product, and Security leadership to streamline and drive projects on a predictable schedule.

+ Run cross-functional meetings and drive decision-making around schedule adjustments, bug triage, and internal and external partner/customer delivery.

+ Take ownership of engaging with various engineering and product stakeholders to drive E2E execution, including understanding potential risks and alignment models for competing priorities.

What You Will Bring:

+ Strong technical skills especially knowledge of cloud architecture fundamentals. Knowledge of data streaming architectures is a plus.

+ Prior TPM experience in driving end-to-end lifecycle of complex and massive projects across organizations.

+ Experience driving cloud platform engineering cross-functional projects is a big plus.

+ Experience driving operations across teams is also a big plus.

+ Strong communication, interpersonal and leadership skills to work with engineering and non-technical stakeholders.

+ Experience in highly agile environments applying JIRA reporting and sprint planning is a big plus.

+ Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
