Provides direct Patient Care, including treatments and diagnostic studies as directed by a Registered Nurse. Provides other support services, dictated by patient needs, as a care delivery team member. Utilizes effective and appropriate communication styles. Supports unit and hospital goals and objectives.
Job Duties
- Provides care to and related activities for designated patients using a patient/family centered approach and in accordance with established policies and procedures.
- Employs astute observational skills and properly communicates findings, changes, or problems to the RN.
- Uses effective and appropriate verbal and non-verbal communication styles with patients, significant others, visitors, staff, and professional colleagues.
- Functions as a department team member to support unit-based patient experience goals as well as hospital goals and objectives.
- Demonstrates team building skills by participating in the orientation of new staff, as assigned.
- Performs validated technical skills based upon clinical specialty and unit practice.
- Utilizes technology and incorporates technology to optimize alternative modes of care delivery.
- Completes quality control checks on designated unit equipment, if applicable.
- Conducts patient rounds as assigned, anticipates patient needs, and answers/responds to patient call light or pages promptly.
Minimum Qualifications
- High School Diploma/GED
- less than 1 year Six months recent experience in direct provision of Patient Care activities, including treatments and/or diagnostic studies or
- Successful completion of LVHN's inexperienced Technical Partner course.
- Ability to follow direction and provide accurate reports.
- Attainment and maintenance of unit-specific competencies.
- Ability to organize and prioritize assignments in the delivery of Patient Care.
- Basic computer skills.
- Health Services\BCLS - Basic Life Support upon completion of orientation within 30 Days
Physical Demands
Lift and carry 40-50 lbs. Examples: Push/pull patients on bed, stretcher (requires 29 lbs. push force), lateral transfers up to 50 lbs. of the patient's weight. Frequent to continuous standing/walking. Patient transporters can walk 8-10 miles per shift. *Patient care providers may be required to perform activities specific to their role including kneeling, bending, squatting and performing CPR.
