New York City College of Technology of the City University of New York (CUNY), a comprehensive college in downtown Brooklyn offering 60 associate and baccalaureate degrees, invites applications for a Technical Manager and Event Coordinator for the college's professionally-equipped performing arts space, the Theater at City Tech.
The Technical Manager and Event Coordinator will oversee the technical and administrative operations of The Theater complex at City Tech. This person will provide technical theater experience and assistance to staff, students and community groups; scheduling and promoting the use of the facility; and performing a variety of technical work such as operating, repairing, maintaining, and rigging theatrical equipment. The position requires the availability to work a flexible schedule, which may entail day, evening or weekend hours.
Reporting to the Performing Arts Director, the Technical Manager and Event Coordinator will, in addition to the CUNY Title Overview, be expected to:
- Manage day-to-day operations and administrative activities as deemed necessary by the Performing Arts Director.
- Manage college-sponsored event programming: works with student and faculty representatives to understand their needs and assure a successful outcome for every production.
- Manage the supervision, training, and implementation of all production elements (lighting, sound, show advance, load-in, load-out, crew, staffing, etc.).
- Oversee the maintenance and general upkeep of facilities.
- Supervise the work of all production staff and student workers. Establish task priorities for staff and support the expansion of our professional roster.
- Oversee the scheduling for the facility rental inquiries and requests for non-academic use.
- Conduct production meetings with clients to determine technical needs, labor needs, and costs.
- Facilitate client contractual agreements and completion of appropriate legal forms and procedures.
- Maintain inventory and specialized supplies; assist the Performing Arts Director with purchases, leases, and/or borrowing equipment as needed.
- Create and maintain production schedules to ensure staffing needs are met.
- Conduct and oversee safety/use training related to equipment and the facility.
QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelor's degree and six years' related experience required.
Preferred Qualifications
- Strong working knowledge of the operations of carpentry, rigging, sound, video, lighting, projection and props
- Excellent leadership, communication, and organizational skills
- Understanding of best practices in performing arts, including but not limited to construction, lighting, rigging, sound and safety
- Knowledge of software including: scheduling, ticketing and general office
- Possess a solid understanding of the fine arts in academia
- Experience in staff training, development and supervision
CUNY TITLE OVERVIEW
Oversees technical management of a performing arts facility and its productions.
- Provides input center planning, scheduling, and goal-setting
- Manages center equipment and inventory, evaluating ,selecting and implementing system upgrades and new equipment
- Provides technical information and support for all events
- Assists outside technical personnel in scheduling and managing production activities
- Prepares and maintains accurate drafting and technical information for center facilities
- Collaborates with College administration on facilities management and maintenance
- Hires, trains, and manages Center technical staff
- Assures compliance with appropriate regulations regarding safety and building characteristics
- Consults with academic departments and programs on production technical requirements
- Performs related duties as assigned.

COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS
$90,375 - $100,329. Salary commensurate with education and experience.
