GENERAL SUMMARY OF DUTIES: Responsible for assisting with all functions associated with authorizations, Referrals, preservice collections of patient responsibility. Must be an effective communicator who can express himself/herself daily in a professional manner both verbally and in writing as well as be a proactive professional who can identify trends and solve them in a timely manner.
SUPERVISION RECEIVED: A/R Manager
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Insurance verification and eligibility
- Insurance pre-authorization/pre-certifications
- Counseling patients and families on insurance and payment issues prior to surgery
- Ensures all insurance, demographic, and eligibility information is obtained from patients and entered into the billing system in an accurate and timely manner
- Confirms and revises all patient payer information
- Accurately documents all necessary data points
- Evaluates patient financial status and establish contract payment plans.
- Keeps informed on all current Medicare, Medicaid and third party payor regulations and requirements. Informs management and other staff members of changes and keeps documentation current and accessible.
- Distribute, assign, and follow up on assigned work to team members.
- Motivate, and supervise team members.
- Performs monthly quality audits.
- Trains team members as necessary
- Provides input on performance evaluations or corrective action to team members.
- Other assigned duties as required.
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:
- High School Diploma
- 5-7 years of experience with medical office authorization procedures
- Previous supervisory experience in a remote environment preferred.
KNOWLEDGE:
- Knowledge of clinic policies and insurance procedures.
- Knowledge of medical insurance, Medical policies, authorization procedures and payment policies
- Knowledge of Medicare, Medicaid Billing/Collections, HCPC, CPT, ICD-10 coding.
- Knowledge of computer systems.
- Knowledge of medical terminology
- Knowledge of appeals and denials
SKILLS:
- Skill in gathering, analyzing, and reporting.
- Skill in solving utilization problems.
- Skill in written and verbal communication and customer relations.
- Skills in working with Windows based software systems and Microsoft word and Excel.
ABILITIES:
- Ability to work effectively with medical staff and external agencies.
- Ability to identify, analyze and solve authorization problems.
- Ability to deal courteously with internal and external customers.
PHYSICAL/MENTAL DEMANDS: Requires sitting and standing associated with a normal office environment.
ENVIRONMENTAL/WORKING CONDITIONS: Normal busy remote office environment with much telephone work. Occasional evening or weekend work.
