TEACHER AIDE I (DOL REGISTERED YOUTH APPRENTICESHIP)
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Acceptance to Registered Youth Apprenticeship Program
- Active enrollment or completion of Foundations of Education
- Active enrollment or completion of Educational Psychology
- Successful completion of Parapro examination and/or Substitute 20-hour online training
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:
School in-session days
REPORT TO:
Supervising teacher and/or building principal
JOB GOAL:
To serve as support staff when required to implement special education or related services for a class and/or to provide direct assistance to students with disabilities. The paraprofessional will possess good people skills, flexibility, the ability to work under pressure and stay on task, responsibility, reliability, be a self-starter, and have the ability to adjust well to change.
PERFORMANCE
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Essential job skills/knowledge and abilities:
- To provide supplemental instruction, readiness instruction, or remediation according to the needs of the child, as directed by the supervising teacher.
- To assist the teacher by preparing materials, administering specific skill tests, and grading objective tests under the direction of the teacher.
- To accompany students with disabilities and provide support for physical or behavioral reasons to allow student access to the program.
- Instructional aides/paraprofessionals may be required to use basic instructional techniques such as demonstration, modeling, reinforcement, correction, etc. within the classroom setting.
- Instructional aides/paraprofessionals may be required to assist students in toileting, feeding procedures, positioning, lifting, and wheelchair transferring techniques.
EVALUATION:
Evaluation by Director of Special Services or building administration in cooperation with the
supervising teacher.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stoop, reach, stand, walk, lift, pull, push, grasp, talk, hear, see and use repetitive motions. While performing the duties of this job the employees may frequently lift/or move at least 50 pounds of materials, or lift children from wheelchairs, etc. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision such as reading handwritten or typed material and the ability to adjust focus. The position requires the individual to meet multiple demands from several people and interact with the public and other staff.
