Primary Purpose:
Provide student appraisal and instructional leadership to special and regular educators at assigned campuses.
Major Duties and Responsibilities:
A. Assessment Duties:
- Conduct achievement tests to determine present levels of performance and educational need under the direction of the campus Diagnostic Specialist.
- Assist in coordinating the development of the Individual Educational Program for eligible students with other qualified professionals and the parent.
- Oversee the implementation of student ITP's and coordinate the annual transition-planning meeting.
- Assist the Diagnostic Specialist to ensure campus compliance with federal and state law.
- Assist in the collection of and review of existing evaluation data, including evaluations and information.
- Provide leadership in ARD committees as an individual who can serve as public agency representative, interpret the instructional implications of achievement evaluation results, or as a person qualified to provide specially designed instruction to meet the unique needs of students with disabilities.
- Assist in the coordination and administration of the state assessment.
B. Instructional Support:
- Teach two periods a day of special education (unless job combines with department chairperson when campus has option to provide department chair duty period).
- Attend monthly Diagnostic Specialist training meetings when possible.
- Assist with scheduling of students, teachers and paraprofessionals to meet requirement of IEPs.
- Assist with the selection and ordering of instructional materials and recommend appropriate strategies and use of these materials in the classroom.
- Provide technical assistance and staff development in modifying the regular curriculum and instructional strategies.
- Assist with special education team meetings with designated campus administrator and campus department chair.
- Coordinate teacher meetings where the transition of students is being planned from one level to the next.
- Assist in the development of behavior intervention plans for eligible students.
- Assist teachers in preparing for pre-ARD/IEP conferences with parents.
- Assist Diagnostic Specialists in updating student eligibility folders.
- Assist Diagnostic Specialists in the collection of data for Extended School Year (ESY) services.
- Monitor IEP progress reports ted completed by teachers, folder reviews for Indicator 13 and state assessment decisions.
- Assist in the programming for students with behavior problems as described in the IEP and/or BIP.
- Design and implement a campus schedule to assist with annual transition assessments including Achieve Texas (KUDER), to plan for post-secondary outcomes.
- Provide transition resources for students, parents and staff.
- Coordinate with outside agencies in regards to post-secondary outcomes.
- Assist with consents for agency participation in ARD meetings.
- Research post-secondary options with students, campus counselors and outside agencies.
- Other SHARS Duties as assigned.
- Provide Personal Care as identified in applicable student IEPs.

Working Conditions:
Maintain emotional control under stress. Frequent standing, stooping, bending, kneeling, pushing, and pulling. Move small stacks of textbooks, media equipment, desks, and other classroom or adaptive equipment.
