Position Summary: Pima County JTED is accepting applications for a Project SEARCH Teacher. The Project Search teacher is responsible for leadership in the program that is designed to prepare students with disabilities the skills necessary to seek competitive employment. The position is responsible for classroom instruction and guided skills training in a workplace setting. The goal is to identify a student's strengths, interests, and abilities related to skill acquisition, job development and placement; to seek an appropriate community job site consistent with the students interests and skills; to determine and refer to appropriate community support services for training and successful employment; to work with local business and industry to meet their employment needs.
Duties/Responsibilities:
  • Provides leadership to the on-site Project SEARCH program
  • Recruits new student interns for the program
  • Coordinates eligibility for local and state agencies to provide a seamless system of support before, during and at the conclusion of the Project SEARCH program utilizing a person centered approach to meet individual needs (includes Vocational Rehabilitation and other long term supports)
  • Works with the IEP team to develop transition goals for new students and create a "career plan" based on individual preferences and skills
  • Identify and create solutions for behavioral concerns that interfere with gaining and maintaining employment.
  • Perform specific job analysis, task analysis, and job matching activities.
  • Develop linkages among other agencies to assure effective transition from school to work or from current placement to successful community employment.
  • Coordinate internal job placement opportunities within the host business and resulting accommodations, and necessary job supports for students.
  • Coordinates and/or provides travel training when public transportation is available
  • Assesses student skills and gathers baseline data to help with internship placement
  • Attends host business orientations to insure intern understanding and learning
  • Schedule, plan and implement information sessions to publicize the program and recruit potential students.
  • Plans and provides daily classroom instruction in employability skills
  • Works with business liaison and department managers to develop internship sites, write job descriptions and plan for necessary job modifications
  • Works with managers and co-workers to educate on disability awareness
  • Trains students in interview process for internship sites and competitive positions
  • Communicates with parents on a regular basis
  • Coordinates employment planning meetings to discuss progress toward work goals
  • Visits student interns and give feedback to all team members
  • Coordinates with skill trainer to discuss intern progress
  • Meets regularly with business liaison, managers and peer mentors to discuss intern strengths and challenges
  • Knowledgeable of current "best practices" in the field of supported employment.
  • Knowledgeable of federal and state regulations/supports offered to businesses and consumers, and knows where to find information regarding work incentives, etc.
  • Plans and implements Project SEARCH Advisory Committee meetings on a quarterly basis for strategic planning and continuous improvement
  • Participates in Business Advisory Councils to increase networking and career opportunities (industry focused - made up of community employers)
  • Completes necessary evaluations, reports and other documentation
  • Collects and reports data to Project SEARCH and other partners

Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications:
  • Must possess a Special Education Teaching certificate and be able to obtain a minimum of a provisional Career & Technical Education Business and Marketing certificate
  • Bachelor's degree in in Special Education or related field AND three years teaching experience
  • Maintains licensure/certification, if offered, in a technical field of expertise.
  • Current First Aid/CPR certification or be able to obtain it
  • Current negative TB test (within a year)
  • Proof of MMR immunization required (unless born prior to January 1, 1957)
  • Negative TB test within the last year
  • Current IVP fingerprint clearance card or be able to obtain one
  • Valid AZ driver's license

Preferred:
  • Experience working with people in an employment training environment
  • Experience working with transition programs
  • Bilingual English/Spanish

Knowledge, skills, and abilities:
  • Knowledge of variety of student disabilities or circumstances that may impact performance in various work settings
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills
  • Excellent organizational skills
  • Computer skills including word processing, databases and PowerPoint
  • Utilizes sound judgment and decision-making skills
  • Ability to work as a productive team member with job coaches and job sites
