Teacher of the Visually Impaired & Orientation & Mobility Specialist(1.0 FTE) for the 2023-2024 School Year
The ELC is located in Vernon Hills (Lake County), Illinois. It is a special education cooperative providing services to students identified with special needs, ages 3 through 22 years of age. The ELC represents Kildeer Countryside Community Consolidated School District 96, Lincolnshire-Prairie View School District 103, Adlai E. Stevenson High School District 125 and Fox Lake District 114.
Description:
As we continue to provide world-class, specialized educational services and supports locally for our exceptional learners in partnership with families and districts, the Teacher of the Visually Impaired & Orientation & Mobility Specialist will support our students with a variety of needs in a more structured learning environment.

Qualifications:
- Professional Educator License with approval of Teacher of students who are blind and/or Visually Impaired.
- Licensure in Orientation and Mobility preferred.
- Ability to travel within the member and nonmember districts of the ELC.
- Experience with special education students preferred.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
- Provide specialized instruction and services required to meet the unique educational needs of students with visual impairments.
- Assist the student, parents, special and general education personnel, and the student's sighted peers in understanding the unique educational needs and learning characteristics of Visually Impaired students.
- Acquire information regarding local, state, and national resources for the education of Visually Impaired students.
- Interpret specific eye conditions and the educational implication of the visual impairment and the results of functional vision and learning media assessments.
- Assume other duties and special projects as assigned.
