TEACHER OF COSMETOLOGY

The Essex County Schools of Technology is seeking a 10-month Teacher of Cosmetology at Payne Tech for the 2023-24 school year.
Position Purpose
- Under the School Principal's supervision, cultivates students' cosmetology skills, emphasizing hands-on training and theoretical understanding. Fosters creativity, safety awareness, and ethical standards, preparing students for success in the beauty industry.
Qualifications:
- Valid New Jersey a Teacher of Cosmetology/Hairstyling Certificate or Certificate of Eligibility
- Demonstrated knowledge of subject specialty and effective teaching methods
- Ability to maintain a positive learning environment
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills
- Required criminal history background check and proof of U.S. citizenship or legal resident alien status
- Must be resident of New Jersey or attain residency within one year unless exempted under the law
Performance Responsibilities:
- Instructing students in cosmetology principles and practices, covering hairstyling, skincare, and nail care.
- Demonstrating and guiding practical techniques for cutting, styling, coloring, and treating hair, as well as performing skincare and nail care services.
- Integrating theoretical knowledge of Cosmetology concepts, safety protocols, and industry regulations.
- Staying informed about the latest cosmetology trends, tools, and technologies and incorporating this knowledge into the curriculum.
- Developing engaging lesson plans and instructional materials aligned with the cosmetology curriculum.
- Conducting assessments to evaluate students' understanding and mastery of Cosmetology skills and providing constructive feedback.
- Maintaining a safe and clean learning environment in the cosmetology lab, ensuring proper hygiene and sanitation practices.
- Maintains familiarity with district and New Jersey State standardized tests for the purpose of adapting curriculum to maximize student achievement on such tests.
- Collaborating with local salons and industry experts to provide students with opportunities for internships and real-world experience.
- Adapting instructional methods to accommodate diverse learning styles and addressing individual student needs.
- Instilling a strong sense of professionalism, ethics, and customer service within students.
Additional Duties
Performs other related tasks as assigned by the Principal and other central office administrators as designated by the Superintendent.

Terms of Employment
This is a full-time day position during 10 months of the year. This position is governed by the collective bargaining agreement by and between the Board of Education and the Essex County Vocational Education Association.
Compensation
(2022-2023 contractual rate) Contract for 2023-2024 is currently under negotiation.
The Essex County Vocational and Technical High Schools are public schools supported by County, State and Federal Funds. There are five such programs operated by the Board of Education for the Vocational Schools in the County of Essex. These include four high schools and one adult center. In addition to salary, the Board of Education offers fringe benefits to all employees. These benefits include maintenance of hospitalization insurance including Medical, Dental and Benecard Prescription Plan. The Board also maintains a $4,000 Group Life Insurance Policy for each employee.
